Any cruizin' plans for 'down south'?

Hey guys&gals, don't worry about us. If everybody else wants to anchor out and I've got the girls I'll just run back in to the marina. We are not even sure if we are going to be able to make it yet. Now if times change and I've already got my 290SS I would be right there with you all (Grin)

Chuck (and I think Paul)--If you want, shoot me a PM of motel-marina combos that might work for you, and I'll work on some good anchor spots that might be close. I understand that neither of you know if you are going to be able to make it yet. It's really almost no effort on my part and no problem at all if it turns out you can't make the Rendezvous.

Yeh I agree on the sponsorship! lol. SearayPaul...you cant miss another one!

Sadler...Thanks on the offer! Genuinely appreciated. Hopefully we would not have to impose. But as long as we can get a shower we are fully equipped otherwise to stay on the hook. I did not know if we could go back to your marina or if there are any other marinas in the area (where you may be taking us) that allowed showers if you were not renting a slip. Where we boat alot, theres one that keeps the facilities unlocked for any boaters. We will usually take a shower there at the end of the day and then boat to a nearby restraunt to eat. But was not sure the Chas area would be that accessible.

We also have a shower, if anyone needs it. I have my work cut out to get ready. Engine is hanging on the stand in the shop.Transome ass. is partialy out. With a little luck, and the admirle's constant encoraging me to get it done, we will be there!!!!!! Nicky

Heck, I think they should sponsor the whole event, that we we good all go to their store and purchase something. Ya, that's the ticket:lol::smt043:lol:

Yeah...

What he said...

Sponsership is what my company does best.

They are sponsering me working Memorial Day weekend. I am allowed the privilage of working all day long. In return I get to keep my job until tomorrow.

Seriously I am going to see if a trade can be worked out so I can be off. I have already asked off for another day off in May so we shall see. Getting vacation can be a problem.

I already have a motel picked out as we launched out of Charleston a lot last year. I need to get the days off just to see the dingy in action and the supporting cast of characters. Jane seems intersted in this trip also which is a plus.

Since it would appear that no one has a problem with non-Sea Rays coming along, my daughter and son-in-law would like to make this trip with us in their Crownline cuddy. Is this agreeable to everyone?

The more the merrier Randy! It's all good to me.

I'm still working on my options for a launching place. Sounds like Sweet Dreams will be launching from Georgetown on Friday, near the 2:00 o'clock pm time frame. Hope I'm not putting words in his mouth, I'm good at that, so SD correct me if I am. Can you (Randy)meet up at the ferry crossing ramp at 2:00pm? It might be a good place to meet if I can't/don't meet you in Conway.

So, counting all the ballots, it appears that Option 2 is the winner. If anyone finds any hanging chads or "disenfranchised" voters around let me know. Otherwise, we'll plan on two nights of anchoring.

I'll send GPS coordinates along with directions for the first night's anchor spot. Depending on how many we end up with, we may want to break into "pods" and raft up say three to a pod. Last time, we had three rafted together and my single anchor just did hold. A group at my marina likes to anchor out together, and they had five on one anchor last Memorial Day weekend. I was headed farther north on my boat with some friends and stopped to say hi and took the picture below as I was temporarily rafted up.

The anchor dragged during the night they told me and they had to work to stay out of the reeds.

Does anyone know a way to raft up lots of boats and not drag and not have anchor lines fouling? If not, I know two 24' boats works with my 29'. We could use that ratio as a guide for the pods.

Wow, there is a lot going on here as far as interest and a very great sounding adventure weekend. I have been out of town this weekend, came home and checked with the Mrs. For some reason the hospital she works at wants to staff the NICU and it is her turn. They do not have any vacation days on holidays unless someone wants to trade a day (yeah that's going to happen). We hope maybe to catch up on another get together in the future!

Sadler -

A couple of issues back Boating magazine had a diagram on anchor placement for rafting 5 to 7 boats together. Let me find that article and I'll get back with you tonight.

Islandhopper00 -

I think I can probably find the ferry crossing and meet you there if that is the way everything shakes down. 2:00 sounds good to us.

Sweet Dreams -

Yes, they will be coming down with us from Conway. They reside in the upstate (Taylors - on Lake Robinson) after having relocated from Greensburg, Indiana last summer where they had spent the last 3 years. We are also originally from the upstate area (Greenville/Spartanburg) and have resided in Conway since 2004.

I think that about covers all the questions. Happy cruizin' all...

You'll have to run right by it on the way south to Charleston. It's right on the intercostal just after you turn south from Winyah Bay (is that how it's spell't?) a about a 1/2 mile.

Traburne ...Glad to hear more cane come join us. If you are not familiar with Winyah Bay, be very careful. Getting across from the main channel to the ICW canal can be tricky but only if you are not payng attention and following your GPS. You cannot follow the channel out and then turn perpendicular into the ICW cannal! You will hit sand. You have to cut across above or below the canal. Charts(printed) may not be as accurate as you would like so watch the sounder too.

Sounds like this is going to be a great time. Can't wait to meet everyone.

Sadler...Do we have a rough count yet?
