Any cruizin' plans for 'down south'?

Sadler , I think we will trailer to Charleston rather than come down the river. We would rather use our gas rideing around Charleston with the gang than seeing the same sights that we have seen many times. We plan to arrive mid morning on friday, so what ever works for everyone will be fine. I will need to get the info on the landing where you recommend launching the boats. Look forward to the adventure.. Nicky

Sorry folks - been gone for a few days. North works fine for us Sadler, whatever is good for everyone else.

Gerald and Mike--my buddy Beerbob has just confirmed that he'll be able to make a return appearance as my first mate for this Second Charleston Rendezvous. Should be great.

Regarding Friday night's anchorage spot, I think we've heard from everyone but Sweet Dreams. I believe he was planning on putting in at the ferry below Georgetown, so it's likely he'll be ok with the north of Charleston anchorage as well.

Therefore, unless I hear a problem from anyone, we'll plan on that spot for Friday night.

I'll try to post some photos of the north-of-Charleston anchorage to wet everyone's appetite. It's a beautiful spot.

Sadler,
We were the firts to reply, but I guess you missed it. Thats fine with us to anchor north. Looking foreward to it! Maybe its time to compile a group email list. I dont mind, Gerald did a good job with the last trip or it may be easier for everyone to send to you.

Sweet Dreams--oops sorry! That's pretty bad that I missed the first to respond! My only excuse: too much food and drink last night celebrating our 33rd anniversary.

That would be great if you'd compile a group email list. Once done we can email everyone the locations of the various places.

And to see if everyone is ok with where I suggest we stay Friday night, I pulled together a handfull of photos of the spot. They are from about three different times I've stayed there. If this looks good to all, I'll get directions/coordinates together and get them to everyone via the email list:

Salder great to hear BeerBob will make it. Your slideshow was perfect and only makes me feel worse about probably missing Friday night :smt089

Since we are talking about being north of Charleston, has anybody used the ramp off Shem Creek it looks like it might be on Simmons Street. Sadler the ramp next to your marine still looks great and having access to the water to flush the engine is a major plus.

Chuck's question about a ramp north of Charleston reminded me that it may be time to consider the second night's location for those planning to anchor a second night. Where we stay Saturday night may influence the launch point of several of you I am guessing.

I was thinking perhaps south of Charleston for the second night, since this would sort of center the weekend up on Charleston, with an opportunity to be in and around Charleston on Saturday and then head south down the waterway in the afternoon for the second anchorage.

If we do go south, there are a couple of areas that come to mind. One is about an hour south, down the Wapoo Creek, up the Stono River, to a spot near Kiawah Island; this is where Mike and Gerald and I stayed overnight during the last Rendezvous, and is private and very scenic. The other place I was thinking is a nice anchorage near red marker "77" on the ICW about two hours south of Charleston.

Both are great, and we could do both--lunch around Kiawah with time on the sandy beaches there, then head further south to marker "77" for the night. The anchorage near marker "77" is near Wadmalaw Island, almost to the North Edisto River. Or, we could forget about that, use less gas and spend less time moving, and stay the night at the anchorage near Kiawah. Either of those is great to me. Or, if someone has another spot, we could stay there. Any thoughts?

The Shem Creek ramp that I am familiar with is very shallow at low tide. You need to keep it in the middle or push. When leaving Shem Creek don't even try going straight across to the harbor. Follow the markers and then come back to Charleston once you join up with the ICW at Sullivans Island. Sadler can correct me on this if he knows another way across the harbor. We perfer Remleys from that side of town. The water is deep and they are installing a bulkhead to knock the waves down in the afternoon. The ramp is cross hatched for traction. I have left my truck at Remelys many times for several days at a time without problems. County is also Ok. I have left my truck there twice. This is the south everyone is honest.

..... almost everyone. Once after spending Labor Day weekend on the hook at Lake Jocassee, I went to get the trailer and some inbred redneck had stolen my bow stop roller off the trailer!

PS..... working hard on getting there Friday night. Don't wanna miss a thang :smt001

Yeh theres been a little bit of theft in the area at some ramps talked about on a chas fishing forum. Some in broad daylight, middle of the day. G'town too. Heard most of it back in the late summer I think. Hopefully it was a couple of isolated low lifes (redneck thAngs) and they have gotten caught by now. Gerald, hope you and the fam can make it!
