I'm a car guy without a car right now. I've always built my own but no time to do that with the kid and work... and life in general. Anyways, I've been window shopping... what would a car like this be worth in your neck of the woods? These guys are asking $53k. Yes it's a steel body.

 Nice one!!!

I'm not an hot rodder but sure I'm a car nut!!!

Is it registered with any noted rating clubs. If so who and what point value. As you know there are all types of restores. If it's a daily driver hot rod then 53K is to much. 35-40 would be more like it. If it is high in the restores point then a higher price would be warranted.

Will it be a trailer queen, weekend driver or daily driver? Each has it's bracket value. It's not an original restore so that takes the price down. The engine isn't blown though it is a HEMI. Can you provide some power train and chassis details that would support the 53K price?

No doubt it is a fine looking ride!! Just don't have enough info to support 53K investment.

IMHO.

You are not a car nut ... you are a boat nut Pietro!! Do you have any babes lined up to help you launch this year? When will you be getting the Moon Child wet?

I am definitely both, Ken!!! Boats+Cars.

I'd like to splash around April 20th in order to spend the Easter week end on the water!

Babes? What babes? :grin::grin: you, know, I'm kind of concentrating on just one lately...

Hot rodder and dragracer here. Man that car looks hot especially with that Hemi in it. What kind of chassis, suspension and what about the interior? What part of the country is in???

No, I was not aware of that Pietro. Do you care to elaborate? Does she have her sea legs yet? Some pics of those would be nice too.

I'm going to tell you the 2 fundamental requisites:

1. She should not be afraid to be my passenger when I’m driving fast
2. She must have sea legs…nice long and slender

Pics: be patient...:grin::grin::grin:

Yo' highjack... can't you PM all that chat?

Anyways, I'm waiting on more details on the '36. The car is not a daily driver, it's owned by a "professional drag racer" is what I was told. It's a car that gets the odd drive on the nice days. Apparently it runs VERY strong with the 392 hemi, 4 sp auto, 9" rear, Mustang II front end... I haven't asked about any ratings.
I really like the style of the car... catchy (bling) and a sleeper at the same time...

I found the official CSR hot rodders thread

I have project car in my garage (also a Ford) that I've started planning. Actual fabrication kicks off latter this year, yes after boating season is over.

The car you are looking at is a nice restomod. Price is tough...not a penny over what you are willing to pay:smt001 The un-chopped metal body shows off the classic clean lines, I like it. Also pleasant to see that it doesn't have a run of the mill SBC, however for me I'd rather see powered with a FE.

Around these parts, $53K would be a sizable budget to build the same car.

I will second what PMC said. Many nice point including the original rear view side mirrors and tail lights. Very clean.
Is the chassis a tube or is it a boxed original? 4 sp auto and 9" diff should make it reliable. Still pricey at 53K. :wow:

It is a sleeper but all the power will toast the skinny tires. You'll need a second set of wides for Saturday night light to light action if you're going to see the torque hook up to the pavement.:grin::grin:

The point is "Do you like it" that's really what counts.

I've been a car guy from California for many years and I've never ever heard of a street have a rating. Could be on $100,000 + street rod or a pre war Mercedes or like cars yes, but not a average street rod. At least what I'm familar with. Or maybe on tv shows they rate cars.

I am a hotrodder, have a pro street/strip camaro, other posts mention if it has original drivetrain/suspension.Those are valid points to research and it looks like it has the less desireable 392 hemi. the intake and carb could be better for that kind of money also.

Yeah them back skinnies would probably catch fire and launch off the rims if you got too excited on the gas pedal!
There are no more "barn finds" or half finished projects here so finding and building one is basically out of the question. I have little "build" time anyways.
As a comparison... in this area my buddies '32 Vicky 327 / auto / vette rear would sell for at least this much.
I love the '36... I had a '37 5 window but someone had to have it and bought it just after I had the chassis together.
Anybody know the production number of 1936 3 window coupes?

A sleeper is a car with pretty much original sheet metal and looks ,like the skinny tires and steel wheels. But with a big a$$ engine hiding in there.like my 56 with an 80 over balanced blueprinted 324 tripower. She looks plain as day from the outsides.Well except for the tons of chrome on the bumpers.

'36 Ford Covertible is one of my favorites. Did you see this one in Ohio? 59K.
