Anyone have a opinion of this boat?

I am real interested in this http://www.commonwealthboatbrokers.com/gallery.asp?vID=10365

1986 300DA, and I really like the price. Most of the pics look like its in decent shape. I live in IL, so flying out to VA to look at it is in order.

Any comments on the boat? Price seems close to fair to me..

Thanks-
John

The boat looks like its a decent value............Canvas doesn't fit most likely just shrunk, stbd starter and solenoid have just been changed (are they ignition protected or just automotive replacements), interior is dirty and may have water stains on the carpet. But, the 300 is one of Sea Rays better hulls and this one like like a really good starting place.

I don't like the broker's bidding, contract and deposit terms. It is apparent that the he is somewhat flexible on the terms, but you really need to have your act together and fully understand how a contract for a brokered boat should be structured in order to protect your interests and then don't hesitate to scratch all over the broker's preprinted form to put in the terms you need. You also need to have your big boy negotiating boots on for when the broker says "Its our policy......" to your demands for appropriate contract terms.

Good luck.............

I dont know if this makes a difference to you or not, but this is a Weekender, not a Sundancer. It has inboards. The spec sheet on the website says it has alpha one outdrives but that is not the case. The engine photos show the straight shaft and the prop pictures show the inboard arrangements.
The weekender doesnt have the small mid cabin that the DAs do.
This may make no difference to you at all but thought I would point out the incorrect labeling.

I bought a boat last year from Commonwealth Boat Brokers, so I have some experience with them.

Their process is not like yachtauctions down in Ft Lauderdale. If you like the boat, fill out an offer form and submit it. If they accept your offer, you can then get it surveyed. (The listed price is the price they want, be sure to offer less....).

Last year, I submited an offer, and was accepted. I flew from FL to VA to inspect the boat and meet the surveyer. I was not happy with the condition of the boat. However, the dealer worked with me, and got the bank to agree upon a revised price that reflected the issues that I found on the boat.

Plus, their financing folks worked very well with me. Overall, I would say that they are an honest and ethical group, selling excess and repo boats. The dealership consists of a dirt lot and a shack, but overall, I would recommend pursuing this boat (if this is what you want), and dealing with folks.

Overall, Commonwealth was friendly, helpful, and worked with me to complete the deal! (Plus, their BBB grade is A+, which is saying something when you sell used boats).
