Evidently not required on my inland lake in WV.

When are flares required?

Evidently not required on my inland lake in WV.

I believe on any federally controlled waters any boat operating between dusk and dawn is required to have flares (or the electronic version). In Michigan (and probably most/many other states?) boats over 16' in length are also required to have daytime signals which is why those fancy electronic flares come with a flag.

Red flares meet the day and night requirement, LED strobes do not...
