The oil discussion CAT DEO, SAE etc has been well and truly hammered and were I in the USA I would have all the answers .

Here in Australia for my 3116 the CAT oils are available and are an option I may well chose. But to compare, I wondered what other Australian (and maybe NZ ) owners are using that is not CAT. Australian Mobil Delvac Modern looks to be CAT approved to ECf 3, but it’s different name wise to the Delvac performance some use in USA on their 3116s 3126s.

I’ve put this in its own thread as the 3116/3126 and other threads have this already covered for USA

Whatever you choose, there's lots of documentation regarding the benefit of a straight weight 30 or 40W vs. multiple viscosity oils for the 3116/3126.

BEST !

Caterpillar has revised the oil ratings. They now recommend API CK-4 for the newer TIER 4 engines and backward compatible. So, you are good with multi vis oils with the CK-4 rating. In Au I think Mobile Delvac would be the oil most available. Regardless use a quality oil in the correct viscosity for your climate. The single viscosity oils are no longer required.

Shell oil sold as Rotella here in the U.S. is sold under a different name elsewhere -- Rumina, I think, or something like that.

You are correct, something like that . . . Rimula is what they called it.

Sorry can't confirm any more than that, though.

thanks all, Shell Rimula is a thing.

As multigrade is now acceptable and as I have a non aftercooler set of 3116s, I reckon multigrade is the way to go for me, with all its fan dangle claims about engine life extending etc. And suddenly the infamous Rotella I read so much about seems to be an option albeit with a different name. And Mobil Delvac CK4 also to choose from. Maybe price can be a factor for me with all this competition

Looking at the specs Rotella vs Rimula they are very similar . See pics

Update: looking at prices cat deo uls ck4 15w40 is no more expensive than shell. Thoughts?

Both meet API CK-4, you are good to go. Even if your engines were aftercooled you'd still be good to go.
