Aloha all. Been living aboard our Sundancer for a few weeks now and loving it. One of our first tasks is to replace the main Rule 2000 pump and switch. Have been researching whether to try the automatic model and getting rid of the float switch. Can't find any useful online reviews or other threads here on point.

Anyone here tried one of the automatic ones? I know they cycle every 2 1/2 minutes which wouldn't bother me other than the battery draw, which is supposed to be minimal. As many know, the space between the engines is hard to reach so I'm thinking the less physical parts to care for and clean the better. But if this design isn't as reliable, I'll stick with the separate float switch.

Being in about 14 feet of salt water all the time at our slip, I don't want to have to worry about the pump coming on if needed since we can't just plop our boat on a trailer and pull it out if there's a problem. I know the float switches have proven to be reliable for a long time. Would like to know how they compare to the "water sensing" automatic version. Thanks for any recommendations.
