I installed new Axiom XL. The boat is on the hard and inside. I have run the battery charger a couple times this winter for a few hours each so not sure of the charge on them. The Axioms have power but when I swipe power switch it takes several tries to turn on or off. Work fine once running. Will low voltage cause this?

Possibly, but if this is a new unit, get on the phone with raymarine. I’ve found their tech support to,be pretty good.

The Axiom takes a little getting used to. There's no tactile feedback. Swipe it left to right and give it a couple seconds. Getting your finger on the center of the 'switch" helps too. Check that the LED or color of the switch changes first (should go Red to Blue or maybe green??) , usually takes a few seconds for the screen to show the Axiom/Lighthouse Logo.

Also, be careful not to swipe it too many times, you can send it into the recovery menu. https://raymarine.custhelp.com/app/...power-on-reset-for-axiom,-axiom+-and-axiom-xl
That is a right to left swipe, but its good to know.

I have two Axiom 12's on a new to us boat last summer. I was tired of the swiping action to turn on/off. This winter I re-routed all the helm wiring for electronics so that I only had to hit the "Electronics" switch at the helm and all the displays etc. power up at the same time. No more touching 5 different items to get everything on.
This is very simple to do!
The Axioms will turn back on in the state they "lost" the 12 VDC power supply. So if you cut the power to it while it is on chart mode, then restore power, it comes back on in the same place without touching the slide bar on it.

Just an FYI

I also did this, makes it very easy!!

details please, and there’s no issue with corrupting the file system by doing this?

details please, and there’s no reason with corrupting the file system by doing this?

I also do this with Garmin MFD's and the Maretron DSM's. Everything is wired to a switch and that switch is on or off. Been doing this for years this way. No issue so far. Connected my friends Simrad's up that way as well. I can't imagine RM is any different.

No sir. This is a system design by Raymarine.

I installed an 80 amp relay, overkill, but sort of the smallest I could find and knew would work. It is at the top of the picture with the 8 GA wire going to the bottom of it. The outgoing 8 GA red wire goes to a 6 position fused terminal block. Each electronic device is hooked to the terminal block.(With appropriate fuses for each device) IE Axiom 1, Axiom 2, Radar, Tri data, STng backbone.

The wire from the switch on the helm panel will go to the relay and tell it when to allow the 12+ VDC pass through it to the terminal block. (small red wire at the bottom left. The black wire is gorund.) This makes the amp load at the switch minimally LOW. The voltage/amperage is running through the relay and powering the terminal block. (In simple terms). The relay is connected to the main 12 V feed from the engine room which is most likely 2 ga wire or larger, plenty enough to handle whatever you put under the helm. I have my JL 800/8 Amp connected to the same 12V POS "O" gauge terminal at my helm.

Here's another view along with my helm electronics panel.

So you just switch the main power line?

Can you also do this with the autopilot computer?

Yes sir.
I have 2 switches at my helm from Sea Ray.
1. Electronics.
2. Autopilot.

I left the AP alone and focused on all of the other electronics, but yes you could do the AP if it didn't already have a dedicated switch.

I’ve got an AP switch, but at some point, someone swapped the Raymarine AP for a Simrad AP and disabled that switch.

While I’m thinking of how nice it would be to flip a switch and power up I started going though pictures. I found this and blew it up and it appears I’ve already got the switch’s I need. Next trip to boat I’m moving wires! Wish me luck I’m far from an electrician. I do know those switches don’t work now on anything P.O. Rewired
