And they want us to get EV cars!
I have bitched about batteries on here long time. I got a new Diehard in spring for the boat. Recently I checked volts, its on land winter storage.
The new battery, 8 months old, deader than Kelseys nuts, wont take a charge. Going back with receipt on Saturday to get new.
Batteries suck. Fark Musk, Biden and anyone trying to tell me EV is the future. Fark em.
And if you love your Tesla, go away, I dont wanna hear your lovefest, just don’t.
Cause I can get in my ICE car with 15 gallons of dead dinosaurs in the tank. Without wondering if i got enough charge to get home.

I'm with you on this one. I pay a premium for Interstate batteries, and I'm lucky to get 2 seasons out of them. Pisses me off. If were to ever buy an "EV" it would be a hybrid at best. The battery technology isn't there. Plus I like my carbon footprint.

Im on a pissed off roll. I read this morning about so many people think Musk is a genius. The guy is a con artist. Fark him.
YOU buy his crap, I wont.

Absolutely right PL

I love my Tesla. Both of them. Actually, three. My 8 year old has one also.

I don't disagree that battery tech needs to improve to make EV a more generally viable solution.

HOWEVER....there is a huge gulf between your standard lead acid batteryand advanced LiIon / LiFePo4 batteries. It's like comparing the Red Barron to an F-35.

The advanced batteries are far more durable, have active management systems, and a bunch of other tech to make them work much better for longer. A Die Hard lead acid battery is really old tech, very sensitive to charging behavior, strongly affected by vibration, and has no built-in management systems.

I found that my lead acid batteries were not lasting more than 2 seasons when I was on a mooring. I believe its because they were not being regularly charged, and they are constantly self-discharging. LA batteries are toast if they get under 50% charge and last longest when they have regular float charges. Once I moved to a dock and could have a shore power to an onboard smart charger my batteries started to last way longer.

Sure. I was in my friend's golf cart, I mean Tesla. It said we had 248 miles range. We went 10 miles. Ended with only 210 miles range. These cars can't do simple math. :)

Happy for you. Enjoy. While you sitting at a charging station for an hour I will be give you a ride home after I hit the pump for 5 minutes.
Dont even go there. Happy for you. Tell Joe and Elon I said no thanks. And give my best to Bernie Madoff and Sam B-F.

I'm with other people technology is just not there to support it yet maybe in another 15-20 years

My wife and I have been talking about this a bit lately. It feels like the current best scenario is the hybrid drivetrain. For more predictable or daily driving, EV is fine.

But for us we need to longer range of an ICE engine. For example, we drive 750 miles / 14 hours from NY Metro to TN over Thanksgiving. Needed at least 2 gas stops. Trying to do that in an EV would be really hard. Next example, I have to drive from NY Metro to central PA this weekend, 5 hours/265 miles. I could do it one way in an EV but the charge when I get there is the question. The charge time and infrastructure are still issues. If new battery tech improves for really fast charging (carbon nanotubes? graphene?) that will be huge for adoption.

The 15-20 years time horizon is certainly an issue with municipalities planning to ban ICE engines in 2030.

There's no way that they can ban the internal combustion engine it's impossible right now just my two cents

If I could buy everything diesel I would. I will never have anything electric except my power tools and that’s only because I can’t buy them with internal combustion engines lol

No fi

No disagreement on the math issue / battery life sucks but 0-60 without law enforcement around……

The truth of the matter is batteries get sucked. Then they never recover from the electric blo job.

Every 5 years I just change all 4. I do not invest in AGM, I just get regular wet cells and plan on changing all 4 every 5 years. Batteries do suck... ICE forever!!
