245 years ago today, brave men in Lexington and Concord faced the mightiest army on the face of the earth. A rag-tag unit, armed with righteousness and divine providence, changed the course of history and created the greatest country the world has ever seen. I pray that we are able to keep it.

Amen.….

There was a unified focus then, something clearly not in the cards today due to f'n politics and the greed for power. I am concerned for our country.

Another excellent argument for congressional term limits.
This is a great country, it isn’t without it’s problems, but thanks to the foresight of its founders it’s still great.
That’s all being threatened now by political divide that is being promoted by partisan politicians, cable TV programming masquerading as News and the industrial political machine that is so thoroughly threaded through both.
They sew division for personal gain. Their insatiable appetite for money and power is eating the rest of us alive.
The founders anticipated abuse and corruption by power hungry individuals and took safeguards against it.
The Federalist papers give us great insight in to this.
What they couldn’t imagine and protect against was the corruption, power and lack of true oversight of the legislative branch that a two party system supported by lobbyists and modern forms of media have produced. Particularly with a largely politically ignorant electorate.

Now hold on to your seats for my next thoughts:

Two slim, but significant, glimmers of hope in the form of Donald J. Trump and AOC have emerged over the last several years.

While you may not like or agree with either one of them, they were each able to break through the barriers outsiders face to penetrating one of the two major parties.
They were choices that neither party wanted to offer up to the masses.
Trump got through to the people and was able to push a presumptive nominee (Jeb) and at least 15 other typical politicians aside to take the GOP nomination and the Oval Office.
AOC was able to break through against all odds to take a primary from a longtime politician (Joe Crowley) who was in line to be the next Speaker of the House in a district where winning a Democrat primary guarantees a general election victory.
In these days of King makers on both sides of the aisle, the success of both of these individuals is a sign that the electorate is becoming more aware and fed up with politics as usual.
There are people out there who recognize that typical politicians are out for themselves and they want to send people to DC who they feel will represent them.
This has sent the political industrial machine, career politicians and the cable networks in to an irrational tailspin.

I agree with him. But I don’t much like nothin with AOC in it.
Well written JVM. I agree with much of what you had to say except that I think AOC is a bit off the charts when it comes to her political views.

I'm 100% in favor of term limits. Politics should not be a lifetime career.

I think she’s an idiot and don’t agree with anything she stands for.
But, what I find to be promising is the fact that an outsider was able to launch a grassroots primary challenge against a career politician who never saw it coming.
The only group that hates AOC more than the RNC is the DNC.
If she can unseat someone like Joe Crowley in a Democrat primary, it scares the crap out of the rest of them.
Same with Donald Trump. The establishment Republicans are still reeling from what he did to them. None of them ever believed he could steal the nomination.
He’s really upset the Apple cart. Look at how many GOP retirements from the House there were in 2018, including Paul Ryan.
BTW: He was a Democrat most of his life.
