I recently down-sized & now have a 2001 SunDeck. It needs bottom paint. It spends most of the year in Pool 26 of the Mississippi river where algae grows within hours. A nearby marina quoted me a fair price for the job, but using SeaHawk Monterey paint. From my research, I believe Odyssey Triton paint (which is twice the price per gallon, but seems to be the top of the line paint) would be better.

I'm looking for an algae resistant paint that I won't have to repaint every year. The boat (barring issues) will only be taken out of the water (on a trailer) once a year, pulled upon sand bars 4x/year, & driven at an avg cruise of 20 knots for 120 hrs/year.
Any ideas?

Do not use Monterey, used it in Pa on a freshwater river with algae issues and it allowed considerable growth. You want a dual or triple biocide paint, so in hard ablative paints those are SeaHawk Biocop TF or Colorkote, Pettit Triton, or Interlux Micron Extra SPC.
Ask around with locals if anyone has experience in your water with one of those paints.

There's no such thing as "best". But there is a "best" for your area. Talk to local marinas and, especially, local boaters that have been there for a while. Forget about internet reserach - it pretty much useless in this case. No reason to go through all the hassle of researching, and ultimately guessing, when you can just copy and paste what others are doing successfully in your area.

One of the shops that does a lot of bottom paint around here uses Monterey, but I've read (here & elsewhere) that it doesn't work all that great in fresh water at least. The Odessy Triton has more copper in it (along with ECONEA & zinc pyrithione), & it has a 2 year guarantee so I believe I will go with that.

I would like to thank one & all for thank you for your assistance.

I hit the like button - but decided that was not a strong enough message.

The question of bottom paint comes up a lot - it seems to me there is so much variability with a lot of factors from region to region that seeking local in your area experiences are the best path.
