I am going to be splashing in a few weeks into the big pond and wanted to know what you guys have found is the best source(s) of marine weather for Lake Michigan. Two I have found so far are a Windbuoy app for the iPhone and the following link from NOAA:

http://www.weather.gov/om/marine/zone/gtlakes/lotmz.htm

Are there other better sources or a satellite weather subscription?

One source for the north rite now is out my window. Currently 28*, Snowing frkin Snidways, occasional thunder, a foot and a half of snow still in front of my boat house and April looks to be fair to mostly shty.

Sorry bout the little rant there Bob... cabin fever gettin real bad these days.

Thanks Ray,
Will help petro shop a little and some other good stuff.

We use the XM / Siruis satellite Weather service. Live feed full color marine weather radar, storm tracks, sea surface temperature, wind, surface pressure, wave heights, lightning, and forcasts. It is number one on our “Must” have list. Cell phones only pick up along a few miles of shore, satellite will work across whole lake.
The cost… depending on display head unit you are running, a weather module runs a few hundred bucks, the monthly service fee is about 29.00 per month. We run it for 6 months at a time and have turned off for winter. We can run w/ storms in area and stay a safe distance. The decisions we are able to make with it PRICELES!

Escapade,
I was hoping could provide some insight into XM weather. I have a Satellite radio antenna on my boat. What other hardware is required to get it to display on my C80?

I added one in our 05 320 when we had owned it as well. We also had the C80. You will need the Raymarine SR-50. I bought for about 250 dollars. It came with all necessary cables and everything was long enough to reach. It is easy to mount and plug in. I put mine in the inside of side panel next to the helm. There was plenty of space inside. You will run over to power block under dash and plug into the C80. I then ran the antenna up to the SR-50 then ran a line over to the back of the stereo down stairs. If you have the antenna going to the head unit it will be easy to fish back to the SR-50. The nice feature is when it is run from the SR 50 to the stereo you can activate the stereo from the dash on the C80! Like a digital Juke box for the Satellite tunes. Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

:smt038Escapade, I'll be at Skipper Bud's tomorrow an I'll ask what they would charge to install this and make a decision on what I want to do. Thanks for the info.

I find the weather.com 10 day forecasts are pretty accurate. You can also click on the daily weather and hourly details with temps and winds. These are very accurate. Combine this info with the weather maps the site provides and you can figure things out for yourself quickly. I routinely track this information prior to leaving for a trip and then continue to check weather with my radar set to 72 miles to spot t-storms and squalls with enough lead time to take cover in a safe harbor if things get dicey.

Has anyone seen a prediction for Great Lakes weather for the summer season? I have not found anything on searching the internet. I would love to see a summer like last year: a prediction for a summer like the previous year (2009) would not be good. It was almost always in the 60's for highs on the weekend, it seemed.
