I'm changing the 3-bladed props on my 2001 310 Sundancer to 4-bladed props before launching this season. The props are on order, so I've been looking at prop pullers. I've seen several different designs (Harmonic, C-clamp, scissor-style, something called a "Prop-knocker", and others) and I'm wondering if any one type is better than another. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Google Prop Knocker. They work really well and super easy.

Thanks guys

Some prop pullers won't work on 4 blade props so if you want to be able to use it some day to pull your 4 blades makes sure it can do that as well.

Thanks, I had noticed that on some of the listings.

regardless of the tool, a nice metal hammer on the shaft end is your friend. Prop knocker does that for you, but I bent a 1/2" steel plate on my puller before i recognized hitting the shaft in the correct place would cause a vibration to break it loose

I never hit my puller but I could. I could hit the plate in the center, right over the end of the shaft, no damage to the puller that way.

I just tighten the puller screws, doesn't seem like anything is happening, then it goes 'ping' and prop is loose.

sorry - good point! I didn't hit the shaft directly, but rather the plate. Should have worded that differently. The ping scared the crap out of me the first time

I purchased this one a few years ago for around $350.00, which is what my yard wanted to charge just to pull my props.
I believe it’s the mid line model that Woody recommended. Works great!

Here's the thing, there are two kinds of bolt pullers, one for three blade and one for four blade props. And they can't be inter-changed.

The prop Knocker fits both. I have used them for years.

I don’t know anything about the prop knocker, but the puller that Woody and I are recommending also works on three blade props.
In doing so, you don’t use one of the bolts and it’s nut and relocate one bolt and nut to a centrally located hole on both plates so that all three are in a triangle pattern.

Didn't know that puller had a selection of 3/4 blades. Either way, to each his own.

Sky- your thoughts here?

So every yard I have been at and including myself, use prop knockers of some sort. Mine is brass and I don't use a sledge hammer and whale at it. I use a 3lb maul and hit it a few times, like 2-3. Sometimes they come off in one shot.

I have never really given the transmission side of things a thought. I guess if you were slamming it with a 10lb sledge then there might be an issue. But I don't see one the way I use it.

EDIT: Just for the record, the other puller being discussed can harm the prop if not set correctly.
