I know I have read about this somewhere. I have a small section of black backing on my carpet that is disintegrating what is the repair that is being used to make them last a little longer? Thanks :)

It is a small section now. It WILL be the entire carpet eventually. You can hope to forestall the inevitable with products like Durabak which should buy you two or three years at $90/gallon. Or just suck it up and call snapincarpet.com and solve the problem all together if you get the upgraded backing.

I used Plastidip for small repairs on my 340. My 410 was two years older, and I used Ultra 1000 from Lowe's. It is a silicone-based roof repair compound. I brushed it on the entire backing. It is the consistency of mayonnaise, and it has really done a great job.

Sorry, I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find the other thread(s). Carter, how has the Ultra Roof held up for you over the last two years? Most of my old backing has either come off, or been "encouraged" to come off by my pressure washer. Do I need to worry about the Ultra Roof bleeding through to the front of the carpet? Thanks!

I have not used it but, I've read a few posts where car undercoating spray paint has been successful. The undercoating is sprayed on the carpet backing and it does not come off on the deck. The posters said it extended the carpet life for a few seasons.

Can't help with longevity because I just-as in yesterday-finished putting Plastidip on my carpets. Carpets were just like everyone else's-nice but crummy backing. Spent a fair amount of time getting as much of the old backing off as I could. 11 clack cans-around $60. I'd rather defer replacing these carpets until they actually need replacing due to wear or stains. With kids, I'm sure that won't be long. First impression is good. No bleed.

I'm thinking of trying that stuff they sell on TV ..Flex Seal..it comes in brush on quarts now. I''l post back with results.

Used durabak. Looks better than new. Only one season so far, but not a spec of black on the floor of the boat.
