Boat docking competition

I've seen some videos of those dock races. They are truly bonkers.

I have a downeast styled boat, and it would be fascinating to see if it could do any of those maneuvers. But - no way I want to a) damage my paint b) break something. Also I have a small rudder that isn't great at low speed and sucks in reverse.

I was talking with our local retired lobster boat guy the other day and he was giving me tips on getting out of my slip at lower tides. He suggested backing out a certain way vs. what he saw me do. He was adamant about it until we each learned that I have a small high-speed rudder, and his 40 ft lobster boat had an oversize rudder that actually gave directional control in reverse.

If you don’t care to watch the entire story skip ahead to 13:20

I was amazed and a little terrified.
Fantastic. I watched the entire thing. Thanks for sharing. My favorite line: "I don't think that we're sinking, we're eroding".

That was not disappointing! So much for slow is pro. And only on the third rewatch (13:20) did I realize the guy slinging the lines was also driving the boat! I would absolutely go to this event: sunshine, crab cakes, skilled lunatics docking fishing boats on plane...

I was going to try to support the community by buying crab cakes. But at six 4 ounce crab cakes for $180, no thanks.

My wife was sent a box of those by a grateful client a couple years ago. They were absolutely delicious and quite large but yeah, $30 a cake is hard to swallow (well ok it's easy, they're delicious, but you get what I mean.)
