Boat Renters Insurance Needed

Does anyone know of a company that offers rental insurance if I rent a small boat while on vacation?

I'm headed to Destin and I signed up to rent a small center console. The company sent me the contract and I read the entire thing. They literally want to transfer all risk to the renter...EVERYTHING. God forbid you get into an accident - you'd be responsible for the other party as well. I called the rental company and they offer no additional insurance to buy - they told me to use my auto policy (comical, right?). I called all my carriers for auto, boat, etc and none of my policies transfer to the rental and none will offer a rider.

If I can't find anything, I guess I will have to cancel unless I can find another company that offers insurance with it.

They do not. That's what I told them!

I did find one company that offers a policy to cover damage to their boats... up to an including a total loss with a $500 deductible for $50 bucks.

They do not offer an sort of liability insurance.

Still a red flag, no?? If I hit somoene, they can come after you personally.

How would that work? My carriers already told me none of my existing policies would cover a rental. Umbrellas cover extend existing policy coverage.

IDK, but it should cover things a normal policy won't. So you have auto insurance that covers your auto. But if you get sued for a boating accident, hopefully your umbrella would pick it up. You would need to check with the insurer though.

Seems odd that your own provider could not guide you to a product that would provide the coverage you need.

Perhaps after your trip it's time to start shopping for a new insurance carrier

Although it seems odd for us boaters, I called other companies who I don't do business with, and they have no products they're able to suggest either. Definitely odd to me.
