Boat wax

I have used the miguiars one step compoud/wax in the past and have really liked how easy it was to work with. The boat I just purchased the owner used Collinite Fiberglass Boat Wax #925 this stuff is amazing. Im curious if collonite makes a compound wax and if they do i'm sure its worth checking out.

I tried a lot of diff wax and polish I like the Miguires wax the best. I also use the Miguires boat wash and wax. Works really well

I've never had any luck using wax based products in the Florida heat as they seem to dissipate quickly. I find that polymer based products with no wax provide the shine of wax and lasts about a year. I prep the surface with Buff Magic and then I put two coats of Nu Finish on. I use Nu Finish on my cars as well and I prep the surface with a clay bar.

I prefer Collinite 925, after a buff job............JMHO, Tryed them all..........

Something most people overlook is that it doesn't matter what kind of wax or polymer you put on the boat if the surface is not perfect or as perfect as it can get. There is no wax anywhere that will make a boat shine and last. The key is to have the best shine as possible before any protective wax or polymer is on the boat at all. The top coat should be used to seal in the shine, not produce it.

A great product that is super slick and nothing seems to stick to it. Caution, this stuff is dangerous if used on stepping surfaces. Very slick. Real easy to apply and hand buff off.

I have a neighbor who uses it on non skid, but I will not go there.

I used this for the first time last season when I pulled the boat for the winter, and like you have tried many different ones in the past. I must say I like it! She will get another coat in March before splash day!

I have a friend who waxed his non-skid. I damn near killed myself one day while on his boat and going to the bow for the lines. Not fun!

Bill, Love the color of your 320, I had a similar color on a 1995 180 BR years ago!!

If you guys like the Collonite 925, give the 885 a try. It's more of a pain to put on, but it lasts much longer. I only use the 885 on the topsides - simply because of how long it takes to put it on.

I tried the Collinite wax after Lance raved about it and I'm not sure if I got a bad batch but it didn;t go on very well nor was it easy to take off. It seemed like it gummed up easily and took alot of effort to fully remove it. I'm not sure if I will try it agaon or not. I've always used Maquires in the past and had good luck.

I agree 885 is the way to go as long as you're not afraid of a little hard work. you must follow the directions and put on/take off small sections at a time. let it dry and you'll have muscles aching where you didn't know you had muscles. 885 is also only half of it though, best used with 920 pre-cleaner to get the "bond". For my boat, 885 on the hull is a must because it only gets pulled every 2-3 years therefore I want the longest lasting protection I can get.

Not to say mequiars, 3M, starbrite, etc don't work fine but Collonite is my personal preference.

Was not giving you crap Lance, we talked about my issues with the wax before. Maybe I had a bad batch (seems very runny almost water like) or I'm working on too big of a section thus making it difficult to remove. My boat sits on a lift in the sun, I boat in saltwater and use the boat almost every weekend. It doesn't have any oxidation but I usually wax very three months (still doesn;t shine like Lance's). I don't think I've gotten better results from one wax or another. I just make sure i clean it and wax 4 times a year.

It needs to be buffed then (Hi-Speed/w/your choice of compound), wax of any type is mostly for protection. I prefer Collonite because it seems to last longer (BTW, my boat was an outside boat before 2 yrs. ago when I bought it), But I busted ba@@# buffing it, one time, and now wax it twice a yr. w/Collinite, and yes now it's stored in a shed.
