What is a good Antifouling paint for the bottom of a boat for salt water also do you use the same paint for the rudders

Thanks

I just picked up a quart of Sea Hawk Smart Solution 4705 paint for my outdrives. Has anyone had any luck with this? I got killed last year with barnicles on my outdrives!

I use Interlux Trilux Boat Prop & Drive Antifouling Spray Paint. I bought it online from WholesaleMarine.com. They were $10 less per can then buying at any local marine supply store and shipping is free!

Last season i used two trilux spray for My B III but after 30 day it is not work ointihar year i w
Will not use spray

If you use Trilux spray you must apply several coats. It is so diluted with thinners that several coats are needed. Either that or but the quart can and brush on 2 coats, it's cheaper.

I use what ever ablative paint I can get on sale that has 40% CU... I use a Bottom painted made for metal on the trim tabs and rudders. I don't use spray paint. It is hard to find inexpensive good Bottom Paint. The least expensive will run you around $100 a gallon...

this season The Price is not My priority My priority is clean sterndrive and clean propeller
during season end of August

i talked The dealer in Turkey from "İnternational" company
the gunu advice me FiRST use İNTERPROTECT undercoating after Trilux 33 two coat

this Will be more effective

When I bought my 290 the PO gave me about half of a gallon of what he had used
It was Interlux ACT, so when it was time in the spring last year to paint the bottom and outdrive , I bought 2 gallons and did the bottom with 2 GOOD coats. I then used the Interlux Trilux Boat Prop & Drive Antifouling paint on the outdrive.
All looked great when I was done.
So last year in my area I was told was one of the worst years for barniceles (sp) and everyone was having a problem
My buddy in the slip next to me had lost 10 mph because they were so bad and ended up having the boat pulled and scraped
cost him close to 500 bucks. I kept checking my bottom and didn't seem to have any.
So at the end of the season when we pulled the boat all I had was 4 single barnicales on the outdrive.
I have already bought my paint for this year!

I have put on CopperCoat on mine - which is an Epoxy based paint with 1kg of copper pr. litre of paint. That is the first paint that really keeps the growth off. The paint can last up to 10 years. Every year you are supposed to "rough up" the paint to expose more copper. It is VERY expensive due to the copper content - but seems to last very very well. I did not loose any speed at all using it.

I am on month 7 in tropical climate and not a single barnacle.

Drives have Trilux. I have 1 1/2 inch space between drives to copper coat paint. That is painted with water based anti fouling without copper or metals in.

Where I am, ablative paints seems to last only about 6 months no matter how well they are put on. That means if my CopperCoat lasts only 2 1/2 years - I have "positive" ROI.
