How can I tell what kind of bottom paint is on my boat? I only need to touch up a little bit but there seems to be many different kinds. Can anyone help me with this?

Only real way is to ask the previous owner.

If you had invoices from the previous owner on work performed on the boat that might include the specific bottom paint used.

Try rubbing with your finger. If it rubs off easily and transfers to your fingers it’s ablative. If not it’s probably a hard paint. Ablative is the most common these days.

In fresh it’s probably ablative…. I wouldn’t be concerned putting another brand of ablative over it like Pettit. I use it and very happy with it.
Pettit also has an etcher to remove some of the old which it is what I did because wasn’t sure what was on there. Not sure the etcher made a difference

But, whatever you do, don't taste it ;-)
