Wondering if any one paints their metal parts with bottom paint that has copper. Aluminum trim tabs? Steel rudders? Bronze props? Stainless shafts? The previous owner had everything painted but I hear different metals react differently with bottom paint. Thanks for any info.

Yes, different materials need different paints. You can not put your standard paint on an outdrive or within an inch or so of the drive. I used petite zinc spray on the metal (except outdrive) rudder / shafts / trim tabs but the tabs where steel.

I don’t have outdrives but still concerned wil trim tabs and rudders. Thank you

Copper paints should not be used on aluminum. You could use them on more noble metals, but that is risky. Use a paint that is raw copper free on underwater metals.

Dmorris provided the answer, but to recap... best practice is to use non-copper paint on underwater metal. You can also use non-copper paint on your hull.

So the OP has the same thread in two places and we seem to be responding to both ...

Thank you, I had heard that. Buying different paint now.
