Broke a blue drain plug

How are the stainless plugs with Duralac working out? I want a better solution than the blue plugs that keep breaking off!
Whether you are using plastic or stainless, you need to occasionally clean the threads and replace the o-rings. If your plastic plugs keep breaking, they are either
1. Old and brittle
2. Overtightened
3. Binding from dirty threads.

Like noted above, it sounds like you're saying ("keep breaking") that you're breaking the same ones over and over. That shouldn't happen. You may be putting them back in way too tight. They seal with an o-ring so they only need to be snug. They EASILY last 5+ years, if not close to 10, before old age gets to them.

The nice thing about them is that, even in salt water, you will never get any galvanic corrosion happening. If you end up breaking a SS plug because of mis-threading/corrosion/etc, they're a pain to get out. The plastic ones, even if broken, are much easier.

That said, there's nothing wrong with switching to SS - you really should be fine with them, as well.

I've battled those dam blue plugs and find that just looking at them you can see when it's time to replace them. I also change them all when one gives me trouble. The hardest one to get to is the one that usually breaks!

I switched to the SS plugs when I dropped in new motor. I used the same anti-seize that we used at work for dissimilar metals on our reactors. We not only use with the high heat and pressures but also in our scrubber which uses basically salt water. Never had any issues.

So which anti-seize should be used? The Duralac ships from the UK! Anything on amazon worth getting? I ordered SS plugs.

I would stick with plastic (buy new) and use permatex for antiseize….. although I don’t think you need the grease….. never had a problem getting them out….. now getting them back in is another story

Gotta love the doing anything in the bilge. You can see it OR you can touch it, but you can’t do both!
