I noticed that one of the head of one of the screws that holds the transom drain plug base in place was broken off. I removed the other screw and bolt today and removed to take a good look to see if had any problems. Everything looks good and I would like to reseal it and put it back together.

Should I.....

A. Try to drill out the broken screw and replace it with a new one then seal with silicone? or,
B. Grind down the broken screw flush with gel then fill the other 2 holes with epoxy. Then drill 3 new holes and re-install the 2 new screws and 1 bolt?

Hi pirate, I would not try to drill out the screw (speaking from experience). Option B is your best bet.

I'm going by memory here in reference to my 320DA, so I could be wrong. However, if I recall correctly the screws have nuts on the other side (inside the engine room). So, if the head broke off, why can't you pull the remains out from the bilge and then replace it with new screw with washer and the nut?

On my 320 there are 2 screws and one machine bolt with a nut on the othes side. In this case the broken fastner is a screw so I am screwed.
