The DNR and Sherriff’s Department let it be known early on that they would be out in full force on Lake Lanier this weekend. Trust you me, they have backed it up. Last night, there were 3-boats parked at the thoroughfare to our dock. We have one dock neighbor that gets belligerent when he gets intoxicated. He left yesterday around 1pm with full coolers and 3-passengers. About 9:30pm last night, he attempted to return to his slip. He was stopped and decided to get belligerent with the law. Needless to say, he was placed on the law enforcement boat and one of the deputies returned his boat to the slip.

This lake is way to crowded for this kind of behavior. Every year there are multitudes of accidents that result in deaths. Some people never learn….

Oconee and Sinclair are the same Bennett, son, family and friends are at his lake house on Oconee today with the pontoon and the 19' Flats. I tend to lay low on the holidays...

Holidays bring the idiot out in people sometimes

We rarely go out on holidays as well. We are up on the north end of the lake right at Brown’s Bridge. We decided to venture out yesterday and went up the Chattahoochee a few miles to get away from the traffic. They were passing out tickets like candy around the no wake zones.

That's a nice area up that way, although I have not spent alot of time on that lake.

Back in the day, cops would put a dragnet of police boats across the mouth of the river and stop every boat coming home on a holiday night. Funding got cut, now there is 1 police boat per shift to cover the whole river so odds of getting a BUI are slim unless you do something stupid in the wrong place wrong time.
Hence the 3 boat collision we had last night at mouth of the river that put 7 in hospital, 5 critical.

Wow, you can almost time it. That's why I'm not out- 'cause of them. I hope everyone comes out on top. Helluva way to learn a lesson for some. Think of the ones not partying and become unvoluntarily involved, that's the sad part.

Last fall, I believe it was around Labor Day, there was a group of 7 in the river here as well, partying, after dark, way too fast. Hit a stationary spoil barge. Damn near everyone in the whole marina was looking for the one passenger they could not find. They found his body the next day. Not sure if any of the others were lost, but all were hospitalized.

On nearby Lake Jackson (I call it mudhole) a drunk father took his young daughter out for a spin one night a couple years ago, knocked her out of the boat and she drowned. Holiday again.

I bring my 4 and 8yrs old grandkids out on my 19' and 23' (The Office too, but that's a little different). We be going slow and steady. And I'm watching every single boat out there, always aware of thier proximity. I don't boat at night much either.

It's not the sober ones I worry about. A sad day for those folks.

Ya, way too early to get the report. I said to wife, how do you have a 3 boat collision? She said, maybe 2 were anchored and one came blasting thru.
I used to go out after dark, no more.

Here's my first 330 Dancer. I was out with another couple, ~10:30 p.m., calm winds, all my nav lights on. We were hit by a BUI boater. Fortunately nobody on either boat was seriously injured.

Ask me what I think of BUI boaters.

I bet it inspired one of the firearms threads

The boat that hit us was on plane and in a gentle curve to his port side. That was a good thing because he hit us ahead of the helm area, not in the helm or aft of the helm where we were seated. The bow pulpit on his 28' BAYLINER punctured the side of my boat above my rub rail. When it did that it hooked the top area over the cabin and ripped it up. His boat came right up out of the water and if you look at the 2nd photo closely you can see his bottom paint where it rubbed off on my bow rail.

My boat was pushed to the stbd as it absorbed the impact from his boat and the people on my boat were tossed around from the impact. In this photo you can see where his pulpit punctured my hull. It knocked cabinets inside the boat right off the wall.

I first made sure we were not taking on water then called 911 to report the accident. The sheriff deputies on the marine patrol had just put their boat on the trailer about 1/2 mile away. They responded ASAP.

While we were waiting for them to come the BUI guy went to his bow and took a leak, right in front of us. Classy act.

They escorted him to a nearby dock/ramp and arrested him for BUI. There's a long story about how I gouged his insurance company (Allstate) before it was all done. My boat was totaled. I liked the boat so much I bought another one in Portland within a month or so.

Ask me now what I think of boaters who drink ANYTHING then take the helm.

5 killed, 4 injured a mile or so from our marina.

Happened around 10:30 AM, man at fault was arrested for BUI.

AT 10:30 AM! FOR A BUI! AT10 freaking 30!

Sharp curve, but leads in/out of no wake zone at Savannah Yacht Club. Wide area , good viz, no obstructions.

The daughter lost her whole family.

The drunk guys bud lost his life

Public ramp is right next door, good chance I've seen em out there

Found a little info about the Middle River incident that PL mentioned, but not much. detail.

Got this alert when it happened. So sad...

BUI and kids at the helm. While boating North on the Potomac River Saturday bringing the boat home, a small fishing boat caught my eye coming from starboard to port racing in front of me. By small I mean one of those little tin cans that's maybe 12 ft long. Literally perpendicular to me going very fast. I kept waiting to see what he was going to do, thinking he'd slow down and go behind me. Nope he gunned it and went in front of me and I barely missed him. I later realized he didn't want to deal with my wake probably. Two kids, teens, seconds in my opinion from getting crushed by my boat. If his outboard engine had stalled it would have happened.

We actually saw a lot of young kids on boats with no adults.
