I am looking for a camper package for a 2006 Sea Ray 320. I wanted to now if anyone had suggestions on where I could purchase one in the Long Island, NY area.

It will extend the season for you, makes cruising on cool days nice. I have a small boat that I had full canvas custom made and it makes winter boating nice and warm here in the South, that is when we have winter, haven't had much so far this winter. On cold days with the sun shining with full canvas you are nice and warm inside.

Ive got to admit that one thing i miss about my 240DA is the camper canvas. So much so, that im actually considering something for my 320DA. Even though its pricey, the benefits far outweigh the cost.

I inquired from Sea Ray and The Great Lakes Boat Top company about this. I was told that a camper package canvas is not available for the 320. Something about the station wagon effect! Have considered one from Taylor Made, but I am not sure one is available from them.

The full camper was the first selling point on our 320DA for admiral. After having it in our 240DA we couldn't see our new boat without it. If I had purchased it with standard camper the price/budget would be adjusted for a custom made.

Since you're in LI area you'll benefit from it just like we do pretty much the whole season long in NJ. It goes up in spring and comes off for winter. Make sure you have screens and rollups unstalled to allow plenty of air when needed.

No doubt it's definitely well worth the cost, you will love the added room (living space) it adds to your boat. I would stay away from the fastback setup especially on a 320. Although it is less expensive and easier to install it is one of the ugliest things i have ever seen on a boat. IMO

tawcat,
SR might be right regarding the station wagon effect, however I don't buy it 100%. How much different this could be from 240,260,280 to 320? The airodynamics are the same only the boat is a little smaller. Many 320 onwers have installed custom campers. I do agree and would like to point out that station wagon effect WILL OCCUR if you fail to maintain enough air flow throught the cockpit. The same will apply to the cabin. I've had this happen once. Here's the link on the descussion:

Thanks for posting the link to the discussion on the "station wagon effect"/ CO discussion. I always assumed that the CO monitor was installed as a safety precaution because of the generator. I never considered that exhaust fumes could enter the cabin while cruising at 20+ knots.

Last year I was on the ocean in 5 to 8 foot seas. (leaving Atlantic City) Before heading out of the inlet I put up all of the windows in anticipation of getting soaked with spray while driving. I left the aft curtain off. About 1/2 hour into the trip, my friend commented that he smelled exhaust fumes. I didn’t think anything of it. A short time later, I started feeling nauseous. I attributed my nausea to the rough seas. Now, I am thinking that I the exhaust fumes may have been playing a role in my “sea sickness”.

I will be sure to keep the cabin and cockpit well ventilated this year!

I'm glad to help Vince. Notice that the key item was two extra CO detectors. The buit-in SR detector never went off, in my case, while other two gave me reading over 100ppm. CO is something you cannot afford to miss, thus I apply my rule #1 (always have a backup). The next season I'll have 4 CO detectors, 3 in the cabin and one in the cockpit.

I guess, we can conclude that station wagon effect is always present. So, it's all about whether we let the fumes enter the cocpit or cabin area or we have proper ventilation to force it out.

Sorry guys, I don't mean to highjack the thread, but I think that CO issue applies very much when we discuss full camper eclosures.

There are many situations when CO can save our lives, but I'd like to mention one that many people might not think about, which is when you anchored with everything off on your boat, but there could be a boat near by running something (genset or the mains) and wind shifts and blows in your direction. This is rare, but very possible.

I called on a fastback last fall for my 330 DA - At that time, they were not making them because they didn't have access to a 330 from which they could template their design.

Even here in South FL, I love the idea of a camper top for the shade it offers and, yes the sun isn't always shining in the sunshine state, so when it rains, it would be nice to have that extra shelter covering all the way to the aft seats...

I'm looking for a place in South Florida that is reputable and will make me a good deal on a camper setup for my boat. If anybody has any ideas, please let me know.

Regarding CO, I wonder if it helps or hurts that my boat has underwater exhausts. Either way, I'm likely to move forward with the camper setup regardless.

A CAMPER TOP IS WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR TO IF ANY ONE KNOWS ANY BODY IN THE MEMPHIS AREA PLEASE LET ME KNOW THANKS O IT FOR A 2008 330 DA:smt021

I have a 1997 330SD with a camper back. If I leave the windshield closed a piece if Kleenix dropped just forward of the swim platform will come into the boat. This is at about any cruising speed on most days. If I open the windshield window the Kleenix exits aft.

I am getting one custom made. I'll post pics when completed. I am doing mine a little different thou, got rid of the little bimini, and had custom frame work done, and man does it look awesome. Due to the hot Texas sun, I do not plan on taking the bimini down, that's the reason for the custom frame work. I would check with a local canvas shop, they can do the job like you want. I was told never to order the material pre-cut and try to build a frame for it. Good luck.

Just got a quote back from Taylor Made on the Fastback enclosure for my '05 320. $2200! There's a $500 incentive in there. I think this might be too good of a deal to pass up... :)

It looks like you can't run with the 'top' part of the fastback up and the sides/back off right?

That would be a deal killer for me as I like the idea of taking the back and sides down and leaving the top up for the shade...

So are you basically SOL then or will some other canvas company fabricate a camper top for you?
