Can 15W-40 Rotella T oil be used in 8.1 gas engine

I have never seen the wrong oil hurt anything, but no oil, that's another story!

I've seen both.

Used Mobil 1 5w/50 in a street SR20 powered Nissan S15 I occasionally tracked and ended up with badly scuffed camshafts and followers - this oil always had very low idle oil pressure after coming into the pits.

Had the motor rebuilt which made circa 400rwhp and revved to 8,000 rpm every time it was driven and had no problems with Motul 300v over the 7 years since the rebuild.

My brother also experienced very low oil idle pressure in his twin turbo LS2 when using Mobil 1 0W/40.

There was also an article on the Forced Performance Turbochargers website about oils. The turbo thrust bearing on a new turbocharger was knackered after very limited use after using Mobil 1 oil. They recommend high zinc and phos oils and provide a list of recommendations.

I'm not bagging Mobil 1 oils, but it probably drives home that the correct oil and viscosity for the application matters.

I've also seen what no oil does when the oil pump hex drive rounded at 4,000rpm on a country road in my 2 litre Pinto powered RS2000. Rods and crank were thrown in the bin when I had it rebuilt as they were too badly galled to be reused.
