So there is this new TikTok challenge out but I can’t copy it to post it here. They jump out of a boat that’s running at speed. WHY? It’s like hitting a brick wall after jumping out of your car doing 65.

I saw that on the msm news where they falsely reported people were dying doing it. Then the next night they retracted the dying part. But bad stuff can happen I suppose. I was looking at it from the point of view that is it really any worse than wiping out on a water ski? I did a lot of that when I was younger.

I disagree it's like hitting a brick wall. Jumping off a 50ft bridge would be more like that. Jumping out of a boat (while still dumb) is more like skipping and tumbling across a hard surface.

If it was like hitting a brick wall at 65 everyone doing it would be dead.

I've skipped across the water at 40+ trying to barefoot ski... it is easy to get hurt.

Morons competing for a Darwin Award.
I'll wait for the top five winners list at years end.
There are far more dumb asses competing than what I care to keep track of.
In fact, I see it live daily . . . no need for any app.

I was just going to say the same thing. Barefoot skiing is great, until you fall, but I still loved it. I will say, it felt a lot better than the couple times I came off a motorcycle at 80+ mph.

Saw two of the videos today… so far they tie for first place in the Darwin awards 1st both the Captain and his passenger jump off the boat while at speed, the boat kept going. 2nd was two guys jumping from a moving duck hunting boat, no big deal except the second guy he jumped from the front of the boat. Boat ran him over…

Thin the herd.

Well, looking back probably not the smartest thing...but back in my high school college days I was big into water skiing. Slalom courses, barefoot, kneeboards (wake boards were not around yet) you name it. Hitting the water hard and fast was just part of the game. More than once I have jumped out of a boat going over 40mph, usually with a shortie wetsuit on, not as bad as you would think - sometimes alcohol inspired - we were doing it to see how far we could skip across the water. Could you get hurt, sure, did it hurt - maybe a little, could you die no. You fall during a slalom run crossing the wake, you are going much faster than 40mph. All of my skiing injuries, which weren't many came from falls during a slalom run.

Now, double your speed and do it on asphalt.

There was probably about a three year span in my teenage years where I thought nothing was cooler than putting up a huge wall of water with a slalom. Living on the water and being the only guy with a boat, I was out every time anybody else bought gas. To get more wall, meant more speed. I was only ever able to spray the guys fishing on the bridge a few times, but crashed countless times while trying gain that expertise. I wasn't going to post any of that in this thread, preferring to let my Darwin Award comment suffice.

However, when I saw Mitch's post above I have to second, and confirm his premise is indisputable. There is NO COMPARISON to be made when talking about going down on water vs asphalt. The time I'm thinking of, was only going about 70 and didn't find out until after I got home that you can get road rash through a heavy leather jacket. Jacket looked nearly perfect but when I took it off, my left arm was road-rashed to being near hamburger like. I was amazed that was even possible. Damned good thing I was wearing it; I have no doubt at all that I would have lost my arm had I not been.

I often hear. " How can you wear the riding pants and heavy jacket it's hot out?" I can attest the road rash down the right side of your body feels a lot hotter. ATGATT
Well on one occasion, all that was "available" was my Bombers jacket, jeans and good boots.
I chose the slide and grind method as opposed to the roll and break things approach on this one.

Sitting at a light in the summer heat and the lady in the car next to me rolls down her window and exclaimed "How can you stand to wear those heavy clothes in this heat?" To which I replied "When the light turns green, get up to speed, open your door, and lean out the door real hard onto your elbow." The look on her face told me she got it.
