Canadian killed in Honduras

This reinforces my aversion to vacationing in 3rd world destinations, including Mexico. We have a time share in Mexico which also includes access to properties in the USA and Canada. Who needs Cancun when you can go to Hawaii?

Agreed. I stopped going to Mexico to scuba dive two years. They can have their country, I am tired of the the violence there

Popeye, it's just a shame all boaters cannot live in "free" states like us! There was a thread a while back that listed all the restrictions for firearms while cruising the islands (some even count your ammunition). I would like to know how his daughter got out of that jam....

Times are changing and not for the better. It looks like we are in a period of instability in regard to smaller countries .The bad guys all have guns and don't mind using them. I believe I would stay out of those waters unless I had a big enough boat to bring some major fire power along.....Just last month we had a jet skier murdered by Mexican drug gang members on lake Falcon..The Mexican gov. sent an investigator in and he was promptly shot dead. End of investigation.....If you can't provide your own security-don't go!!:smt009 Happy endings where the good guy wins are gone for the moment....

I read the daughter used a flare gun to 'scare' the men away. I am guessing a 9MM Glock would have also done the trick also and maybe caused one less Canadian do die.

Actually, what would be the best gun to have. A Glock like that would put holes in everything bad people and the boat.

I kinda like my Glock 30:thumbsup: It's a good shooter!

That last question is going to bring out a lot of personal preferences-For me it would be model 1911- 45cal., Ar-15, and a 30-06 semi auto with a scope. Now you have something for close, medium, and long range. I would add, If I thought I really needed all that fire power, I would go boating some where else. After all boating is supposed to be fun.....This is serious stuff....

I hear ya, I love my 1911's, but I'm not excited about taking out my Ed Brown's on the boat! Plus I get ten .45 rounds on the G30 and if it winds up in DJ's locker I didn't loose that much $$ It is fun to take my AR out off the coast for target practice off the bow

Had a conversation with a Police man buddy of mine last night about what kind of gun to carry. He suggested a Glock 9mm as its easy to shoot, not tempermental. For longer distances he suggested a .223 rife as they are very reliable. I had not thought of a .223 but the reliable part is a good point.

Its a moot point as I am never going to go to Hondoras or carry a gun on my boat. I would be surprised to hear if many or any Canadians are 'packing'.
