5.0L Carb. For some reason the Engine/Transom/Drive serial numbers that should be listed on the flame arrestor are just BLANK! Any idea where else I can get the serial number off the block/heads? I looked around as much as I could to no avail.

Thanks!

Stbd side, aft, bottom - near the starter. Look along the edge of the flywheel cover for a small, metal tag. About 2"x1".

You may find it was stuck in the manual as well. My last 2 boats had a sticker in the engine manual with it. If all else fails, drop an email to Sea Ray with your HIN and they should be able to tell you, assuming it is the original engine.

Thanks for the reply to you both. I did see that sometimes there is a plate by the starter, but from what i was reading it sounded more like you either had the numbers on the flame arrestor, or you had it on that little plate. I'll check it anyway. Also good idea just calling Sea Ray. Thanks!

The plate should ALWAYS be there... unless someone removed it for some reason.

But, Jason is right - if they're not just faded, and were never actually put on, they would be in the manual.

Do you have a bill of sale? Usually is listed on there, as well.

Bring a small camera with you. On my boat, I could see the tag, but could not read the numbers. So I used a small hand held camera and took pictures until I could read the numbers (old fart eyes).

I did find it! I tried to take a picture but it looks like they use a big "dotted" engraver to put the serial number on there, so all I got was a reflection ha. Oh well, I was able to read it and write it down. Thanks guys.

Some are also on the valve cover! My 1988 CV-23/5.7L has all three serial numbers on the port side valve cover, Mike.
