The left channel in the cockpit stopped working. The speakers in the cabin work fine left and right. The speakers are new and tested. Is it the player, amp or both

You can probably troubleshoot this fairly easily by connecting an audio source to the speaker wires at the AMP and go from there. Could be either. Given the fact that the factory AMP is of low quality it could be either but this is something you are going to need to troubleshoot through each component to see.

Had the same problem intermittently for years. Sometimes by turning the volume way up it would cause the right channel to start up again but shortly after decreasing the volume the sound would once again start crackling and die.
Finally diagnosed it just before getting a new amp! Coming from the XMD1 there were two input wires for the amp - Left and Right. On the end of these wires was one Red and one Black RCA male plug. These RCA connectors were then each plugged into an RCA patch cord that split into two Red RCA and two Black RCA male connectors. One pair went to the amp for the cockpit while the other supplied signal to the cabin amp.
Turns out that the Right channel splitter cord looked ok, but had a broken connection within the wire. If I wiggled it the cockpit Right channel would come on and off. Replaced the splitter and all has worked perfectly ever since!!

Hope yours is as easy.

having exact same issue, right side cockpit, if I turn it way up they come back full power, I'll be looking for the culprit wires/splitter this weekend!

Cheers!
