Upon commissioning boat this year I noticed the display on the my XMD3 was froze. I was unable to navigate through the options, power up, etc. I opened the CD door and hit the reset button using a paper clip. This solved the issue and I had music. That was two weeks ago. This past weekend when back at the boat I noticed the display on the XMD3 was blank. I checked breakers and all fuses which I am aware of including the two behind the head. While they were fine I replaced just the same. I checked power and was getting 12 volt behind the head as well as well as at the amp. Someone at the marina suggested there may be a larger fuse which the amp is hooked up to that may have went but I cannot locate. Still, the fact there is power at the amp suggests it's not a fuse. My first thought after all this is that that the head is simply gone. I don't want to over think but is there anything else I could be missing? Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

I looked at a photo of the rear of the unit. It looks like you have a fuse for the Red and a Fuse for the Yellow wire. Check both of those. Yellow I believe is 'Constant Power' and the Red is the ignition power. Yellow I believe holds the memory, clock and may also be for the head units display. I also see an orange wire that says 'illumination'. you may want to check that as well to see that the connection hasn't corroded or shorted out. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

Thanks for the input. I did check and replace both of those fuses even thought they were good. I will look at orange wire today. Cold be that the head just went bad. Found used one on ebay this morning for about $70 so I shall soon see.

If you have B- voltage on the black and B+ voltage on the yellow and red, you have a bad head unit. Given that a reset resolved it last trip and this trip its blank...........walks like a duck, talks like a duck = its a bad head unit.
