The sound of my head unit is very low. At the highest setting of 33 is like the old setting of 5. This happens on tuner, CD and AUX. I tired resetting the unit. I looked and couldn't find a reason why the sound is so low.

It wouldn't break my heart to replace the unit but I don't want to lose the remote radio controls.

Any ideas? This spring I replaced the stock speakers and added an amp and sub. The head unit had been working ok until yesterday.

Thanks

I have the same thing happen every time the battery is disconnected. You need to go to the setup menu and turn on the RCA outputs to your amp/amps. I see that Clarion has removed that model from the website manuals. I have a hard copy on the boat and will send you the instructions if you can't figure it out.

On page 14 of the manual it refers to setting the low pass filter. Factory setting is 120. That's where your problem is, cycle thru the options to "REAR" and your amp will now get a full range signal. Walla- you should now hear sound at normal levels...

At least that is what I have had to do on mine several times. Hope this helps as it drove me crazy the first time it happened...

I am having the same problem as "Having Fun", only my radio is a Clarion CMD4. I have no extra amps. Just the stock head unit with Sirius and 4 speakers.

Please let us know if you have solved your issue. Mine happened about 3 trips ago on the boat and I can't get the volume to play loud at all, no matter what I try.

Thanks.

I recently purchased a 2004 model with the XMD3.
On the second day out, the unit performed exactly as described above. When the volume is max'd out @ "33", the sound is just audible.

I called Clarion and they suggested resetting via:

Press "T"
press right/left arrows until swlpf is displayed
predd up/down arrows until rear is displayed
press "T"

I tried this to no avail.

Looking at replacing the unit.

Too old/expensive to repair.

Any other suggestions?

please forward to dave@drivedisplay.com

thanks

just bouncing around the net looking for info on the best turner/antenna combo to use with the xmd3 and cam across this post...

i read on another site that it is possible to adjust the sensitivity of the aux inputs. i'm not sure if this will solve you problem or not, but it may be worth investigating.

Press and hold the 'T' button until the display goes to the adjustment mode.
Press Fast Forward (>>) until AUX SENS appears
Press Vol Up or Down to pick high, med, or low (I use High for my MP3)
Press T again to get the normal display

Thanks for your help and this is a great suggestion to boost the aux input. My problem was actually a weak battery. Just strong enough to run the radio but not strong enough to power the internal amp of the radio. Strange and I pulled what hair I had trying to find the problem. But I got a deep cycle for a 2nd battery and everything is great. I didn't think about it because my starting battery didn't have any problems.

did you check behind stereo to make sure that you have no amplifiers installed? there could be two of them (possibly marine audio brand) amps installed : one for cockpit, one for cabin (if you have any rca wires plugged to outputs on back of radio - you have amplifiers). check if any rca wires going to amps and stereo became loose behind head unit. if you have two amps - swap rca wires going to them to diagnose where is a problem: bad amp, bad wiring, bad head unit or wrong settings for rear/subwoofer output. if there is no amplifiers on boat - bad head unit or blown speakers

No external amps. All my RCA's are free with the exception of one pair and I believe those are for the .mp3 aux input. I spoke to MM and they said to check the connection at each speaker as there might be a short at one of the speakers. I've already tried swapping out my head unit for a new one and that did not solve the problem.

At some point if I can't fix the problem myself, I will probably take the boat into MM for service. My horn fuse keeps blowing so my guess is there is an electrical short somewhere.

Do you have 2 batteries? I found it easier to disconnect the speakers at the head unit.. Also there are 2 inline fuses for the radio.

I do have two batteries. Doesn't matter if I select A, B or both when playing the radio. I may try disconnecting 2 of the speakers to see if that makes any difference with the volume issues. Both in-line fuses are fine. Only fuse that keeps blowing is the horn fuse at the fuse block underneath the dash

I believe there is a speaker overload protection with your radio. The horn wire and the speaker wires run in the same bundle and you can access the horn wires by removing the right front speaker. I would try disconnecting the front speakers to see if it makes a difference. There is one large wire harness that plugs into the radio. If you pull that you can see the different pairs of speaker wires and you can easily disconnect them. It actually easier then pulling the speakers plus the short could still exist with the speakers disconnected.

I have same problem with my unit. Just bought the boat (2005 SLX 250) and no sound coming from rear speakers, only the front speakers have sound. I have an amp and was assuming it was not working. But will try as you suggested. Thanks
