Hi all, I am looking to replace my dead cockpit ice maker with a Fridge. However I am not interested in a AC/DC model so I am curious if anyone has just put in a low cost 120V dorm fridge. My feeling is that even if it rusts out in 3 years and I replace again I am ahead of the game and I really have no use for the DC version because I'm always either on shore power or running the genny. My question to those who may have done this is how did you secure it in place? Just a piece of angle bracket secured to the fridge?

Thanks

In a past life I considered this but could not find any standard dorm fridge that would fit the opening. The depth of the unit was always the problem...

We had an old icemaker we replaced with a U-Line ice maker that is a combination ice maker and fridge. It is 110 only. The fridge section has about the same amount of space as the dorm room style fridges. Here’s a pic from one of the adverts.

I have plenty of depth room on the 380 and I know I'll have to cut out the sides but that's not a problem. I'd have to cut out anyway as those U Line ice makers were tiny.

Do you know the model # on that Henry?

Thanks Guys for the suggestions. A little pricier than I'd like though. I've found a couple of different dorm fridges that I can make work. Worst case is if it doesn't work out I'm out $130. I'm also considering just putting a cooler in there with some deck brackets to hold it.

Update: I installed a 2.6 cu ft Magic Chef fridge which I got from Home Depot for $122. Took a little bit of cutting to make it fit but all that's left to do is install some moulding around it to pretty it up.

I just installed mine yesterday, went with a newair 90 can. It’s was around $200. I ordered a piece of polished stainless 1x1 angle that I will be putting on today.

looks great for the money. basically 10-20% of the cost...

mratlndmrk-I don't think the angle bracket would show much it you put a little white paint on it

For me, the glass door looks awesome, but i would think they run a little more often and would lose temp faster when 120 volt power isn't available.

I don't run my genny that much, maybe a little for air conditioning, so 12 volt was a need to keep the beverages cold..

I really didn't even need the angle bracket because after I put some resin and paint over the exposed sides where I did the cut out I had a hard time getting it in there (think both feet pushing). But I had already installed the brackets to the fridge. I will add some paint.

Do you have a model number and external dimensions. I have been looking for a replacement for my ice maker.

It is CO29 and is a 21” fridge. It also comes with the feature that allows you to insert a wood panel on the door.

Now that's cool... if I couldn't live without my ice maker... that's what I would do

One season with a good ice maker and I’m sold on them. Our slip is almost the farthest from the office and ice freezer and just not having to lug a twenty-five pound sleeve is worth it.
