Hi Everyone,

New the forum - I have had a 01 340DA on Lake Texoma (TX) the past 8 years.

I just noticed this past weekend that the cockpit frig is no longer cooling...the control/thermostat light is lit, so I know it has power...but that's all the troubleshooting I have done so far. Will plan to pull it out this weekend and see if I see anything else.

My question is - has anyone swapped their cockpit frig?

Sea Ray installed a Norcold DE-451 (I opted out of the ice maker).

Looks like the new replacements are DE0051 or the newer DE0751 and that both of these could be 20 minute swaps since they have the same cutout dimensions.

Let me know if you went down the same path or know of other options.

Thanks,

Ted

Ted, I am looking at swapping out the icemaker. Not something I would use. I did pull the whole thing apart. Very easy. Just a couple of screws and the electrical outlet is embedded under the sink (assuming you have wet bar). I am replacing with a frig in the spring. Let me know if you can find a website that also discusses cut-out demensions.

Ted,

I had the same problem earlier this year on my 2003 340. Removing the frig is easy, but be careful not to chip the laminate just below the refrigerator. I did the first time I removed it.

I'll ask the obvious question first, did you defrost the refrigerator yet? If you have ice build up in the freezer, then start there first.

As far as troubleshooting, I found that my fan on the heat exchanger quit spinning. I was able to get it working temporarily by giving it a push. It ran overnight then quit the second night. It's a $10 replacement and resolved my issue. I got lucky.

Your coolant might be low, but I'm not sure the cost to have it recharged. I had my marina (Cedar Mills) source a few refrigerators for me, but none matched the same dimensions as the one I have now. The cost is a bit much, but so is anything with "marine" in the name.

Good luck.

Dale

Thanks Dale,

Small world - I'm in Cedar Mills as well...for the last 15 years.

I think I will swap the de451 for the new de0751....same cutout dimensions. Great reminder on the laminate...probably cover it with masking tape before I rip it out.

Hi mquiet,

Best I can tell the Norcold de0751 has replaced the de0051/de451 models....all of which list the same cutout dimensions. My guess is your ice maker is narrower - but that's just a guess (the refigerators require a 18.5" wide opening)...so you might have to widen the opening and then obvioulsy cap or hopefully they were smart enough to provide a cutoff valve to the ice maker water supply prior to installing a new frig.

Next time I'm on the boat...I'm going to pull the frig and verify/measure everything and then order up a new one...will post how it turns out.

Ted

Ted,

I'm at S16. I'm up most weekends, but have been missing the past month. Come over some time and say hello.

Dale

Hi Dale,

I was on the end of R since 1995....and then last Sept moved the boat to S10 with plans to sell it (had sold a home I had in the marina as well last year). Now I think we have decided to pull the boat off the market and will be up there fairly often.

Will definitely see you there,

Ted

I pulled my cockpit refrigerator out last spring. I took it to my A/C guy. He brazed a couple of fittings on to check the refrigerant. It was very low. He charged the system and checked for leaks. He did not find any. I reinstalled and it still works great. He charged me 50 bucks.

Thanks Vince,

Did you have the de451 as well? This frig has run 24/7 for 8 years and has served me well...so it would be nice to fix.

We still have good boating weather....so I'm going to run up tomorrow or Saturday and pull it. We have a maint tech/ac guy in the marina who can take a look.

I do not know the Model of the unit. But I have a 2001 340 like yours. Last week I had a mechanic help me change the oil and filters on the engines and gen set along with the zink on the genset. We installed the raw water impellar on the gen set and two raw water pumps on the engines. We have boating weather 12 months out of the year.

Thanks Vince - I imagine you are getting the same "San Diego" like weather we have had here in Dallas the last few weeks!

The fridge in my cabin went out. I believe it was DE 441. I replaced the cooling unit for about $ 600. The cooling unit consists of everything except the electronic box. It's an easy DIY project.

Thanks Yachtmaster,

I went up this weekend and pulled the 451 and decided to replace with new 751 which I found new on ebay for $579.

Ted,
knowing my luck, I will have to enlarge the hole for a frig to replace icemaker. My wife should have known that beer needs to be stored on deck, hence frig needed and not the ice maker. Waaay to long of a walk to go below or to the aft seating to a cooler.
