With MonacoMike's recent thread about vinyl conditioning, it makes me wonder what your cockpit seat care regimen is.

I leave my camper canvas up full time, but when we arrive to the boat on the weekends, the seats are grimy. I just cleaned them using serious marine clean and finished up with some 303.

I'm tempted to start covering the seats with towels or a sheet while we're gone but I'm sure they'd be covered in dead bugs making more work for me.

In all honesty,I think this is the third time I've cleaned the seats this season so maybe that's it, but I do wipe them down with a wet microfiber towel every week or two. I don't recall them getting this dirty this quick last season....but then again I did start the boat on a weekly wash program recently to keep up on the exterior and allow more free time while we're on the boat.

I think the biggest harm is from UV (sun exposure). I made sunbrella covers for my windows when we are away from the boat.

I used to cover with sheets (good idea).

Nice Dave. No one wants to share what they use on their cockpit seats?

I clean mine with Earth Brite for deep cleaning. I use diluted 303 Fabric and Vinyl Cleaner for touchups and 303 Protectant to Stop the UV.

How about the mold that grows on the canvas. I use a small amount of bleach and water but it comes back any ideas.

I use Spray Nine or simple green followed with 303.

I also use Spray Nine and 303. I have a set of towels I put down on the seats when not there. It just keeps the spiders and dirt off them during the week.

From Sunbrella:

Sunbrella fabric does not promote mildew growth, however, mildew may grow on dirt and other foreign substances that are not removed from the fabric. To clean mildew, or other stubborn stains:

  1. Eight ounces (one cup) of chlorine bleach.
  2. Two ounces (1/4 cup) of mild detergent.
  3. One gallon of water.
  4. Clean with soft bristle brush.
  5. Allow mixture to soak into the fabric for up to 15 minutes.
  6. Rinse thoroughly until all detergent residue is removed.
  7. Air dry.
  8. Repeat if necessary.
  9. Re-treatment of fabric for water and stain resistance will be necessary.

I use Meguiars vinyl cleaner once a month, I do cover the seats while we are on the boat with towels. I have a couple dogs. I do scrub them thoroughly once a season with soap and a scrub brush. I am in a covered slip. My boat stays cleaner with full canvas up than the cockpit cover. I have used a magic eraser on a couple spots two times in the 7 years I have had the boat.

I really like Spray nine and a soft bristled scrub brush.
