Continuation of U-Joint Bellows Saga

Can you rent a telescoping forklift to pull the engines out of the boat at your house? You might be able to do it in a couple of hours one afternoon if everything is unbolted before you bring the equipment in.

I can't imagine a HOA getting upset about someone using rental equipment at their house for half of a day.

Great idea...in fact I thought of the same thing this afternoon. I found one that is a "Tip and Tow" that will lift 10'...just perfect...$64/day. I think I'll pick it up Friday PM and keep it all next weekend. I'll go ahead and get everything unbolted this week and Saturday I'll be able to get it out and on a stand.

OK...engine is out, gimbal assembly with new exhaust and shift bellows as well as new gimbal bearing is installed. We ran the engine on the floor while it was out, changed the plugs, oil, filter, power steering hoses, rebuilt the Q-jet and set the timing. the engine is going back in tomorrow. ...did a pressure test on the drive, water pump service and changed the drive lube. I think she's in the water tomorrow for a test run!!!

Congratulations! You Just saved a ton of money without switching to Geico.

Let us know how it went. I'd also like to know some detail about how the engine removal went with the Tip and Tow. I might need to pull my engine one day.

The Tip and Tow worked well...just make sure you have at least one extra set of hands to help move the hoist around while you are in the boat positioning the engine.

I have pulled several car engines in my life and they were more difficult than this has been. The worst I ever did was helping a friend pull a 351 out out of a F-350 Ford Van...that was 3 x as tough as this was. Don't get the wrong idea...this isn't something you want to do regularly but it's not rocket science either.

Any pictures of the engine removal in process? I've done a few cars too, but never a boat...Never thought of the fork lift idea, that's pretty good.

Nope...wish I had though, but I was busier than a one armed paper hanger keeping this project moving.
