Cool Fuel

Friend of mine owns a bow rider with a Volvo Penta. He told me today he is considering moving to a Sea Ray 280-310ish type boat of the 2000-2010 year range. He would consider a well kept late-90’s model.

He asked me what he could expect mechanically with age and Mercs.

We spoke of common issues, but I could not recall the year/models that had the Cool Fuel module issues. Were those issues specific to a year range or motor size?

on all mercruiser’s? So if a post 2005 5.7/300hp EFI it would have the fuel cooling?

I have 2001 V6’s on my boat. Both have the Cool Fuel module. There were certain years where there was a manufacturing defect which led to peeling paint internally which led to clogged fuel injectors, etc.

From my understanding there was not a recall but a TSB for mechanics.

Idinddoit is saying the issue was 2005 and up. So, I am assuming any EFI or MPI post 2001 (at least) would have Cool Fuel modules.

It was the CF3 that was the problem. 2001 would most likely be the CF2 which had no problems
