Cool things you found on your boat?

Last week I was obtaining pricing on a cockpit cover for winter storage. Long story short I was looking inside the boat and what do I find but an almost brand new cockpit cover. Here the whole time I believed the rolled up canvas was actually the old bimini top (different color than my current setup).

Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised that I don't have to shell out money for cover anymore.

Outstanding! When I bought my boat, the owner used a cockpit cover but not the support poles. It filled with water and tore free of the side snaps. The seats were dingey where the cockpit cover rested on them.

I paid to get the cockpit cover re-built and new poles fitted before I cruised home. I stored the cockpit cover under the front of the forward birth, and haven't seen it since (1.5 years). I plan to use it in case of a named storm. I hope I don't see it until the next owner discovers it, just like you did!

I also found these little 3M thingies. It looks like two wires go in from the bottom and then there is clear plastic and a red 3M cover. There are 5 of them in a long plastic keeper. I have NO idea what they are, but they are cool!

Those are phone line connectors(scotchlocks) I have the crimping tool for those... or you can just use pliers to sqeeze them shut.:smt001

Was lucky enough to find a phillips screw driver when I was swapping out the speakers in the box they were mounted in.

I discovered a storage bin under the vee-berth area where you store the salon table and pull-out bunk insert. From the looks of it, not sure any of the previous owners used it.

Also found:
Outdated chart book of the Chesapeake
Hard back book on cruising the Chesapeake (slightly out of date)
Two rolls of RV toilet paper
Handheld spotlight (broken)
Whistle
Roll of white coax cable for shore TV hook-up
Two large, black fenders
Complete set of heavy duty dock lines
An extra sprayer nozzle (cockpit sink?)
A mystery key to something

When going through the black Sea Ray canvas bag with all the manuals, found one for an autohelm. This got me excited, but can't find any hardware installed on the boat.

Well, in my boat I found,
2 qt. of merc. 25-40 oil
1 qt. outdrive oil
1 bottle of power steering fluid
1 cover snap tool
2 packs of TP
1 bottle of head deoderant
2 bottles of head cleaner.
2 fenders
3 dock lines
But they didn't leave the key nut for the outdrive locks!!! Had to have them cut off and new studs put in when I had the outdrives serviced this spring...Grrr

The previous owner took everything that wasn't screwed down, even took the remote to the tv, grill, flag & staff and left the tank bone dry. However, he did leave the decorative pillows, mattresses and bedcovers, both tables, the isenglas & canvas, the doors to the cabinets, fridge and head, all the faucets and light bulbs, the cockpit carpet, all seat cushions and hatch covers, the engines & keys to start them, one door key, deck lounging cushions, 3 infant life jackets, 3 toddler life jackets (only cause his triplets had outgrown them), 6 orange life jackets, one throw cushion, the manuals satchel, grill mount, steering wheel and 2 fenders. Can't believe he missed those melted crayons and food scraps under the sofa cushion. That guy was something else!

This makes me happy to hear. I was Aqua-Balooza last weekend talking to a woman that bought a 16 year old 51' dancer out of Detroit. Her husband flew out and looked at it first, said the boat was trashed, but it was a great deal and that they could clean her up without too much trouble. While cleaning her up, she said she found little vials and needles (no, not prescription). She said she spent 12 hours doing the initial interior cleaning to make sure it would be safe for her kids. It made me wonder how often stuff like this ends up on boats...

When I had the survey done on my last boat......I didn't find a thing. But after closing and getting her home.............I found a nice rechargable flashlight in the bildge......a note book....and a few bottles of water in the frig.

OH WAIT..........THAT WAS MY STUFF

4 Anchors, (2 HUGE ones, way oversized for the boat!), 3 full sets of dock lines in different colors, 200' of 3/4" rope, 10 or so rail-towel-holder-clip-things, and a pulley on a pole thing that I still have NO idea what it is for.

Well, I thought my boat was void of stuff, but this weekend I put in a VHF, antenna and chartplotter and pulled a few panels and found all sorts of neat stuff... half a dozen lock nuts, a dozen fender washers and some sheet metal clip for holding something. I showed the clip to the mechanic and he couldn't identify it either.

I've also added to the booty, dropped a 7/16" wrench, it fell down a crack and now it's in front of the firewall, behind the starboard wall of the mid-berth.
