Just removed my Alpha 1 Gen 2 stern drive from my 2004 220 SD for the winter. What is the best way to cover the transom assembly to protect the bellows from the elements?

Thanks for your help.

I just put an oily rag in the openings.

A rag like mentioned above works, I made a cover for mine, just used a bell housing gasket for a template, cut it out of plywood and spray painted it black. Used cut some pieces of plastic tubing to hold it in place, the threads on the bellow housing bolts don't go down far enough.

The best cover is to leave the drive on. Why remove it?

Plastic garbage bag and some Gorilla or duct tape works fine.

Sea Ray recommends removal once a year for inspection and lubrication. But I'm with you, I'd leave it attached, unless the boat is stored somewhere theft is a concern or complete winter project overhaul is planned.
