Not a boating related thread however thought I could get a impartial view from the group.

I have been told I need to start using a cpap. Dont really want to use one and that is partially do to my vanity... lol.

Has anyone on here had the Inspire device implanted and how have you liked it also for you CPAP users how has your experience been with one at home and on the boat.

I have mild sleep apnea and have been using a CPAP for 8 years now, just bought my second machine, technically an APAP (automatically adjust to your correct pressure while you sleep) this past Spring.

The Inspire looks like an interesting device, but I'm not going down the road for an implantable device, at least not at this point.

My new machine is a Phillips DreamStation Go. I also have a 3 year old Goal Zero Sherpa lithium battery (different from the newer GZ Sherpa) that is FAA compliant that I also travel with. I don't use a humidifier and the battery will last me 2 1/2 nights without a recharge. I travel all over the world with mine and have it in a small pelican case. It is medical equipment, so it doesn't count as carry on luggage.

With the CPAP/APAP I get NO interruptions in my sleep during the night. You will be self conscious when you first start using it, but you will get over it.

Don't know about the Inspire. I have been on a CPAP for just over a year. It has stop me from snoring, and the apnea I guess I had. Do I like it? NO! Do I sleep through the night? Pretty much. Do I feel rested? Not Really.

You get used to it. And if it keeps my poor suffering wife from having to go to the guestroom I can suck it up.

I also bought that SoClean thingy. Is cleaning it? I'm not sure. Time will tell if I die of some fungus or such. Be listed as COVID anyway.

If I might add, if you are not feeling rested, maybe your machine isn't properly set?

Is it a CPAP or an APAP? While I sleep okay with the CPAP, I do get a much better sleep with the APAP. I know my APAP does adjust during use, and it surprises me to sometimes see the change in pressure it used from the night before.

I never had a problem with a build up with the hose, but I stopped using a humidifier a long time ago. Less hassle and it didn't affect my sleep.

Same here. Been using mine at least 10 years. I have the APAP, no humidifier so I don’t have to clean every day. Love it!

here is the best advice. Don’t get the equipment at the doctors office. They rip you off. I buy from cpap.com. Send your prescription one time, and you can order forever. The price on mine was about 25% of the docs price... meaning 75% discount. Around 450 vs 1800. And the reviews helped a lot. The doc will have one or two, and probably no experience, unless they use one personally. I chose one with high reviews. It’s quiet it and still reliable 10 years later.

Got one wife loves it, no snoring. I do sleep much better. I’ll have to try the humidifies delete method. I do need a travel battery so share your experiences here
