So we sitting at local bar and 3 peeps at table hammering the hell out of crabs. Wife says what are they doing? I said driving shells into the meat. Tourists, too funny, poor guy trying to eat pulling shells out his mouth. If they hammer any harder they gonna break the table!
OMG, I’ve heard Jack hammers make less noise!

I just had two pots stolen as I was an idiot putting them out on July 4. I have been getting really heavy crabs lately and I had a dozen the other day. When I go to an all you can eat crab dinner I get kicked out or my fingers start bleeding from picking so many crabs. I waste nothing. I even eat the mustard.

My brother is an MD and I could post a picture but for the safety of everyone’s eyes who are watching this thread I will not post a picture of infected genitalia.

Ahhhhh, missing the east coast blue crabs. I grew up in Lancaster County, PA. Would cruise on down to Chesapeake Bay and pig out on them blue crabs! Moved west to CA in 2000, gotta tell the truth, I really like it here, the weather is Soooo much nicer than back east, but the Dungeness Crabs they got out here are lousy in comparison! Enjoy!

At the price of a dozen, let um beat the hell out of them and go buy another one or two dozen more… my distant family thanks them

I love the taste of crab but won't bother with the work to crack and eat it. I can't believe folks pay $70 a head for crab feeds out here on the left coast. I know most of the reason is the charity event they support but still, too much of a pain. I will pay the premium for blue crab lump meat to enjoy.

Same, my girlfriends parents get a bushel every couple months, invite us over, I would stop on the way and get a sub. I don't even go anymore. I grew up crabbing with my dad as well, he tried to be a waterman for a couple years. Even then I only have a couple memories of us actually eating crabs.

Costco sells a container of true blue crab lump meat (I can’t tell you pint, 1/2 quart, whatever) for $27. Makes scrumptious crab cakes, my puts NO filler in. My Pavlovian mouth is watering right now!

Let’s try this again…..

my Wife puts NO filler in…… LOL:oops:

What’s a ‘waterman’?

I was hoping for something more entertaining when I saw the title of this thread :D

Flip over to the Bikini thread in the Tiki and you may catch a few scooting on the screen.

What’s the ‘Tiki’

We had a boat on the Chesapeake for a few years so know blue crap quite well. We would order them from Harris crab house in the Kent narrows and have them shipped to Indy. Put a tent up in the back yard inviting friends and neighbors and have a crab fest. I would spend half the night teaching people how to eat them. The ones that got it got invited next year.
The last couple years price of crap and shipping went thru the roof

Have never tried blue crab before, but the west coast dungeness is one of my favorites. We also get the bairdi and seasonal red kings up here. They are quite a bit sweeter. Fresh out of the shell with nothing added. Have probably easily eaten 50+ already this season.

I take they are watermen? Say this, I can afford a boat and the fuel to burn but the price of a dozen is out of my league.

Just have to remember this. It’s not just the boat and fuel. Fuel is a big expense my uncle burns 200g per week per boat. It’s the lic, insurance, tags, docking fees, the list goes on. All those groups that have a hand in Saving the Bay have made a waterman’s life different. Pulling pots is difficult backbreaking work. In rotten controls. You have to pay the deckhands (even if the are family)Then add on the many others above that one Captain. They too add onto the bill. Restaurants will add at the least 1/3 more to all the lowers bill. I don’t know what a bushel of Md crabs, I know I can go get a bushel here from family for about 35 to 45. I always give them $20 more knowing what those same crabs cost me on the street.

A waterman’s life is a tough hard life. No kid today would follow their grandfathers or uncles into this life.
