305 Mecruiser
Hi! I have a 1980 Searay 195. I am in the process of rebuilding it and am getting to removing the existing engine. While disconnecting all the hoses and cables, I noticed that there was a long rusty crack just above the oil pan. So after doing some research online, I notices that people suggest replacing the 305 on the merc898 with a 350, and I have a few questions:

-Can I use any of the existing components from the 305, such as starter, fuel/water separator, and water pump?

-should I stick with a 305 to make things easier?

-will putting a 305 require me to change anything in the mercruser such a gearing?

Thanks,

Sebastian

I would buy a new/reman complete engine if you can swing it. There is a good chance of problems with using old parts and may end up costing as much or more in the long run. The swap should be very easy and would think that a pitch change on the prop may only be needed.
