Gear guys I have a question and would love your recommendations.

Between my heart meds and my prostrate meds my arms look like hell after working on the motors. This weekend I’m changing impellers.

Is there anything I can wear to protect my arms from bruising so bad?

My advice isn’t medical in nature so I’d definitely talk to your doctor as well. I don’t know if it’s from having your arms hanging down lower as you’re bent/hunched over or if it’s from bumping them against things in the engine bay, but that might be helpful to know. I assume you are talking about blood thinners, so I’d start with some Kevlar heat sleeves. They aren’t real pleasant in the summer but it’s a cut resistant sock and adds a layer of minor compression as well as well, heat resistance.

Me too, I always end up bleeding while working on things. Father was the same way when he got older. Never anything bad, just bang my hand or arm and there you go.
You could get a pair of arm guards that you see athletes wear.

I can be putzing around in the garage, happen to look down and I find drops of blood from a cut on one of my arms or hands. No idea how or what caused it. Bruising? Happens all the time. Old man arms.....

This^^^, all of the time!

Glad to see these other posts.
I saw this earlier and didn't reply because all I could think of was: A T-Shirt that says
"I have a Marine Yoga Monkey that does my engine maintenance."

As a stand alone post, that would have read like I was being a smart ass when there was no such intent.

Like the rest of you I didn't know it happened until I circle back across the trail of blood, and then have to start hunting where it came from. That bothers her, I tell her 'she'll get used to it after a few years' or 'you can't deny that I bleed real good'.

The sobering part of all this is that I always perceived myself as some kind of tough guy;
Now y'all are trying to have me believe that it's something else. o_O

Bleeding doesn't mean your not a tough guy. It means you bleed, so your human and not a bot.

Nick, due to my heart surgery I’m pretty much screwed when it comes to the meds.

These are the type of arm sleeves my techs have to wear at some of customers and they may work for your situation as well.

I get nicked/gouged up often enough. My wife will say 'now what did you do to yourself', my response is that what I was doing is such a manly task, any fellow attempting it would probably be bleeding too.

It's going to be harder to deceive her now that I've made a switch to shoes held on by velcro...a constant visible reminder that I'm turning into a fragile old man.:(

I'm guessing since the thread took a depressing turn that maybe y'all weren't familiar with what a trunk monkey was.

Earlier when I referenced the Marine Yoga Monkey it was intended to be a direct rip off of the Trunk Monkey, which I had not seen or heard of in quite a few years until this thread sparked that memory.

In any case, if you aren't familiar with the Trunk Monkey from a few years back, here is a sample.

The Trunk Monkey

:)

Today makes it 6 years since my heart attack and quad bypass. I just remembered all that. I guess the bruising just goes with it and I should be happy to be alive.
