I have a 2004 280 Sundancer with cruisair a/c and reverse heat. Went to fire it up started up and after 30 seconds kicked off. Tried it a couple of times to prime the pump. Checked the seacock it’s opened and the strainer is clear and full of water. Any suggestions?

Are there any codes displayed on your control panel?

No, just the temp it’s set at.

Maybe you seized the pump?
Check power coming to the pump?
That ceramic type shaft doesn’t last long with no water

Mine was doing the same thing but i noticed the air was blowing right on the thermostat. I covered the thermostat with a mask (which is handy thanks to covid) and now it runs for a long time before turning off.

It would come on and would get to the desired temp almost instantly and shut off.

I’ll try both thanks for the suggestions. I’ll post the outcome. Thanks again!

Silly question...but you did turn the breaker on for the pump, right? I've done sillier things...

You should have a code if it was anything to do with water flow. Mine's doing something similar and is shutting off at random times for no reason. I'm replacing the run capacitor this weekend and will let you know if that fixes it.

Checked all the breakers. The only one I have for the ac is in the main panel. Unless there’s one in the engine room for the pump. I have to check that. Thanks!

Quality Time let me know how the repair went when you get a chance. Thanks!

I replaced the run capacitor and did not have any issues over the weekend. However, we only ran the heat because of the bad weather and I feel like my shut off issue mainly occurred with the A/C on. Fingers crossed that we have nice enough weather to require A/C this weekend!

Ok thanks for the update! do you happen to have the part number for run capacitor you installed?

Do you have water flowing when it 1st comes on? My slip mate ran his dry for a while and compressor was iced up. How he didn't fry the pump is beyond me.

What he said :)

The system will shut down if water is not flowing, at least that's how it worked on my boats. The fan will continue to run though.

Check that what is normal water flow to you is coming out of the hull. If it appears weak or non-existent, check the strainer for a blockage.

You would need to know the microfarad rating of your specific capacitor. Mine was a 25UF but I'm not sure how consistent that is across different sized units. Once you check the label on yours they are readily available on Amazon for about $15 so that's why I gave it a shot.

Thanks for all the replies! Figured it out. It ran fine once hooked up to shore power. The portable Generac 2200i was not strong enough to run it with nothing else on which I find odd since the AC only draws 1000 watts plus the pump. I can’t imagine the pump draws another 1000 watts but the interruption when the generator steps up to take the load seems to be causing the AC unit to shut down.

Typically their start up draw is pretty high....but get a built in generator! They are CHEAP compared to what can happen when using a portable...
