We made that trip from Clinton, CT to NYC.

It is actually a very easy trip. Everything is very well marked, and the whole "Hell's Gate" issue turned out to be just a few water whirlpools, which are a non-issue for a power boat.

We got a slip in New Jersey, across from Manhattan, on the Hudson River. The one thing I will tell you, is that with all the river traffic, the boat was rockin pretty bad in the slip. Not sure where you can anchor either. I imagine that if you look on the chart, you will find an anchor or mooring area.

We circled around the statue of liberty. Again, there is a fair amount of water traffic down there, but nothing to really worry about.

Study your charts, program the GPS, and go for it.

If you are planning on being on the East River to see the Macy's fireworks you should know there are a lot of restrictions. The Coast Guard and NYPD control the river and there are severe restrictions. They do not allow any boats to anchor. There are designated areas and they raft boats togethers. Many times, you are required to keep your engines running for several hours. Once the event is over, the coast guard contriols the river traffic, so it may be a few more hours before they allow you to get underway again.

Macy's posts a phone number for boaters to call for more detail. It conencts you to the Coast Guard. I called a few years ago and the Coastie discouraged me from going by boat and in my opinion, this was good advice.

The only moorings I know of are at the 79th street boat basin on the hudson.

If your looking to overnight try Manhassett Bay. There is food, Free Mooring, and Marina service available. Nice town to walk about and shop too. Wick
