With the new season coming soon I thought about adding some more boat related music to my library. I am a salt water cruiser but any boat related music would do. Example, I have 2 that I enjoy and can relate to:

Jimmy Buffet-Son of a Son of a Sailor

Lyle Lovett-If I Had a Boat

Any suggestions?

Can't be on a boat without Bob Marley.

I'm another for some Reggae. Never cared much for Buffet though. Just about any classic rock is good to go.

Lyle Lovett-If I Had a Boat

quote]Great song. I brought that up when Gary was asking about Farm Animals on a boat. Lyle has his Pony.

Marley for sure as it has the Island vibe.

Kenny Chesney, is a "country singer" who is way into boating (and huge Searays) has some great Island boating songs. No shoes, Beer in Mexico, Summertime..

Earth, Wind, and Fire is always a biggy for getting the asses off the seats, no matter where you are.

Pretty much how I feel about Buffet. I dont get the appeal.

I'll +100 on the reggae. Any of that is good stuff, check out Black Uhura, Burning Spear, Peter Tosh,Red Rat, Shaggy, Jimmy Cliff, SLightly Stoopid, even some ub40 is happening again, Yellowman...love it. :smt001

Along the "lines" of reggae, with the addition of some rock to it, I suggest Sublime, 311, Skindred, Limp Biscuit, Soul Coughing...

However, my tastes are probably not going to mesh here much lol...I have all american rejects, tool, rage against the machine,Soundgarden, smashing pumpkins, seether... etc on my ipod on the boat.

No time for wussy music on our boat.

No Jimmy Buffet and no reggie either, thank you very much.

Who is Reggie? Jackson? Ya know, he is actually a baseball player?

When I'm walking the dog, and I see some other dog's mess on the ground, I don't examine it, smell it, touch it, measure it, or otherwise try to determine if it came from a German Shepherd, a Labrador Retriever, or a Golden Retriever. I just avoid stepping on it. Call it what you want, IMHO it's all just

Best regards,
Frank

yup.. put me in that category with Bill too of not seeing the appeal of Buffet.. (ok.. maybe 30 years ago I liked it) I tend to listen to tunes from this century with a few sprinkles of oldies. I can't think of the Sirius channel right now that provided that mix most of the time.

Beach Boys,Crosby Stills Nash and Young, specially Southern Cross !! Also James Galway, and lots of blues ,James Cotton ,muddy Waters....

There is some music from a TV show called "Victory at Sea", it is great when the waves get 5-8 ft. There are some tunes where you can visually see the bow of an aircraft carrier being buried in a wave. Great for the crew.

Lots of classic rock, the gf is into the Mamma Mia songs lately, but we usually go for buffet, boston, chicago, doobies, etc.

Have not heard of Jack Johnson. Checked out some of his tunes and vids and sounds good. He has been out on the water a few times I am sure. Marley is a for sure to add to collection. Not everybody can find a good Buffet song but I have found many good and many that can be well "anything but". Chesney will also on the download list.

I agree with some of the minority here. Jimmy Buffet and Reggae give me hallucinations of middle aged over weight drunk people making fools of themselves on the back of their boat. I am not saying I am closed minded but Jimmy Buffet and sing along drunks go hand in hand.
