So beginning of july I have a issue with my overflow bottle on Port engine - cummins says the cap was bad (was not venting properly) so they replace the canister and the cap (as the canister became out of shape due to expansion / contraction). Now a month later I see condensation on the new cap and check it and see the gasket on top inside of the cap is shot. Question is could I have another bad cap or is there something going on in the engine that would cause this? The engines are running beautiful and all temps / rpms / etc are spot on. Any thoughts appreciated.

Quite a few of the caps do not vent well (gasket issues or ??)........If the plastic tank is off then engine ( on the engine they vibrate too much) , consider removing the gasket and being sure the tank cap in vented ( an very small hole is needed that does not clog).. You can make a better gasket by using a piece of neoprne imbedded cork from PEP Boys or ??..

IMO, unless you like calling a tech out, this kind of stuff is best handed by the operator.. This is far from rocket science as all you are dealing with is a remote non-pressurized plastic over flow bottle that needs to be vented to atmosphere that connects to the engines pressurized expansion tank via a 5/16" ID hose....

Thanks - received a new cap today and replaced ($9 from cummins dealer). Ran today, seemed fine, hopefully problem solved.

Has anyone had a failure of the bottom fitting on the overflow bottle? Mine's leaking and I checked and re-tightened the hose at the bottom but still have leak.
