I just bought a used 2004 220 select. When I tried out the boat the depth sounder worked fine. Once I got it home, I noticed that the depth sounder was not reading. It would only flash 0.0. It's in a very tight location to get too and I not sure what is wrong? Any suggestions?

Sorry have to ask. Are you in the water?

Check to make sure the transducer has not been kicked up due to hitting something.

Dat's what we are trying to say nicely.

I know that mine reads 6 feet when the boat is sitting on a rack with the face of the sounder 18" or so off the ground.

The OP is in Maryland. "Home" could very well mean a slip. We got lots of folks with them around here.

No, this is with the boat in the water. I've checked some for some of the obvious things. The transducer is a flush mount thru hull. It's hard to figure how to check what wires for connection. It worked fine when I tried it out and now that I've got it home and using it some waters that are new to me it won't work. Just my luck. It stinks being in waters that you don't know and your depth finder is not working.

Now we are getting somewhere.:smt038

I am assuming you are talking about a stand alone depth finder not a fish finder unit. Basically a unit that you turn on and it works. Right? If you are getting power and it sounds like you are then there is just the transducer cable. Find the connection off the display and disconnect and reconnect it. Check for corrosion thats about all you can do. If you can get to the transducer you should be able to feel a slight pulse off the wet side with the unit on.

you might want to check to see if it is in a program mode. what unit do you have?

It's part of the searay on board smart system. When I place the system into depth sounder mode it only flashes 0.0 for the depth reading. Everything else works. I've tried checking wires but the transponder is under the back of the engine and really hard to see. I can reach under and feel the wire going in but I can't feel a connection. I need to try to trace the wire up to the top of the engine where it seems to connect to the blue network wire somewhere. IT's really hard to trace because it goes into a wiring conduit for protection.

Sorry I can't help with the system you have. My boat is kinda old school and has a simple depth finder.

hopefully others will chime in.:smt001
