New owner and constant issues. $1800 tow for one, but I get numerous alarms when cruising. What causes an air sensor alarm to go off ?

Bill, not sure about the reason for the tow, but a couple of thoughts. First, I'd upgrade your " tow package " Second, I'm assuming you have the MAN 900 CRMs. I'm not saying to ignore ANY WARNING, but SOMETIMES, it's reasonable to shut the engine down, take a look and see if anything obvious is out of the ordinary, then restart ( reboot ). Some sensors will give false positives and/or letting you know [ they're ] failing. Take note of the fault code(s)....If paramount, restart that eng and get to safe harbor and get to know a reputable MAN Rep. Good luck, Tim

Agree with the comment on warnings. I've had a couple go off and you need to make a judgement call on whether to risk running the engine. I was warned when we first got this boat that we would see false alarms due to sensor failures. I usually swap the potentially faulty sensor between engines to see if the alarm follows the sensor before ordering a replacement. So far have had oil pressure, oil temperature and coolant expansion tank pressure sensors fail.

Given that you have two engines - you should normally be able to make it back to a port on a single engine? I've only had to do this once and whilst it isn't fun - it is possible with thrusters.

Bill, are you the blue hull 58 I ran into at MYC?

Sorry to hear about your issues. The MANs on my '06 have had some issues, but never required a tow in the 7 years I've owned her. PM me if you would like to discuss in more detail.

Tow was somewhat self inflicked shorted the circuit board on the port engine and lost all power to that engine after running around thought to jump the engine with the starboard engine that was fine, but that popped a 50 cent fuse ( didn't know at the time ) so I was left stranded in Block Island sound and was towed back to Montauk new circuit board cost $4500 without labor plus the 50 cent fuse

Hard to ingnore alarms, but an air sensor alarm didn't concern me too much. The question is why ( other then false alarms ) Is it a dirty air filter or not enough air circulation in the engine room?

Thanks Guys I think I answered all questions in pieces. When I asked about the circuit board failure I was told it does'nt happen that often

Bill I've got a great MANS rep, here in Michigan he's out of Wisconsin but I know he travel all over, went out on his own but is fully backed by Mans..... If you want his number let me know.

First sorry about the issues. I assume you had a survey and sea trial? I would request all records and maintenance records on the boat and see if this is a historical issue that slipped by during the purchase.

knock wood first, but our second season has been great. We are very comfortable with the new vessel. It has performed perfectly. I just had to recently replace a water pump, but I consider that normal operating procedure. My wife even misses the boat when we are not on it. Since we boat in the NE our season is getting close to its' end. We are looking forward to our last trip on this Labor Day. Hopefully some day I will find the time to bring it down to Florida. No longer " discouraged " .

Does the water freeze after Labor Day?
