Ditching cable for streaming service?

I have the Verizon 5g service on my iPhone and getting more 5gUW lately. All I can say is…. It sucks. Its so much slower than the prior phone with LTE. Sites time out. Apps time out. Takes forever to load CSR. Takes forever to download a few episodes of Billions or other shows to watch later. I manually switched my iPhone back to LTE and it is much better.

For me, there’s NFW I’m putting the Verizon 5g on my home router. Hope your results meet your expectations.

Here's a 5G test on my phone. It's better speed than my Uverse.

I cut the lines 3 years ago and don’t miss it at all. As for the 4g or 5. It doesn’t really matter out here. While we have Verizon and the 5g is available, the lines on the poles are very old and will not carry the new high speed.

We cut the cord a year ago. Love uTube TV now. At home and at the boat. Use an iphone as a hot spot on the water and get it all. Have Prime and NetFlix for movies.

We went with AT&T Direct TV streaming. So far so good. We went from $330.00 per month to about $150.00 per month. $90.00 is still our internet service from Suddenlink. We have friends who just switched to fiber which is now getting to our area. It is just $59.00 per month so if we decide to switch we will save another $30.00 per month. We are using the ROKU system.

The most consistent thing about cell-based streaming is inconsistency.
a. They never fully disclose the plan limitations.
b. The plans change constantly; never to the user's benefit.
c. The non-commercial high data rate user is sacrificial when bandwidth is challenged.
d. It's always a quagmire between remotes, cell phones, and other devices to find and watch.
Not for me. I have DTV and OTA and they operate the same at home or on the boat. But, I really don't watch the tube that much.

I loved ditching my FIOS plan and only keeping internet. I installed an OTA antenna and use Prime, Netflix and Hulu (although not sure why). We can turn on/off premium channels as needed.

And another great advantage is not having to have set top boxes and pay a ransom/subscription for them on TV's that are seldom used. I have TV's in garage, patio, etc. No extra charge.

Did you remember to disable your cellular connection before running the speed test on your phone. Most people forget and they are seeing the cellular speed and not the wifi.

Not sure I understand the question, I was wanting to see cellular speed. Help me with the question.

I want to cut the cord, but I LOVE watching tennis, The Tennis Channel. That is really all I watch on TV except for some HBO Max and Amazon Prime series. The gf doesn't watch TV. Xfinity seems to be one of the only services that carries The Tennis Channel.

I had DirecTV for a decade. I'm out in the country a bit and had limited options. No cable available and Internet is still DSL at 10Mb/1Mb down/up but fiber is finally being installed into the street.
Dropped DirecTV just over a year ago. Have Roku device on each TV, for Hulu, Netflix, YouTube (not subscription).
Even with my limited bandwidth these perform well and I work from home.

I built an Emby media server PC (similar to Plex) for OTA recording. I installed two UHF antennas in the attic which are combined because my major stations are in different directions so one points North and the other South East.
The antennas feed an Eagle 8 way splitter amplifier and uses the existing cables to each TV for direct OTA if all else fails. This also feeds three networked dual receivers for the Emby media center.

For the house this is working very well even the Admiral approves since the Roku and Emby is almost as easy as the DirectTV interface. Ease of use was a major reason for staying with DirecTV for so long. Not sorry at all to get rid of DirectTV.

For the boat I have streaming only right now. Roku again. I have a hardwired Ethernet system for most devices fed from a WiFi link or an ATT LTE modem gateway, antennas on the arch. Automatic change over for Internet from WiFi to ATT, and auto WiFi for any pre-programmed marinas hot spots I can reach when cruising. The modem does cost me an extra $20 a month for service from ATT.

I'm not a big tennis fan, meaning i don't seek out the matches to watch, but I know someone who does and they love tennistv.com. Just sharing as I cut the cord years ago and am so over paying these cable company so much for 90% of crap no one in my household watches.

The Direct TV Stream "Choice" package carries the tennis channel.

My wifi overrides cellular and drops the cellular data automatically.
Agree, unless wifi is low then it does it the other way. My marina manager said my wifi was good. I made him turn off cellular data and run test and it was crap. It's always best to perform isolated to control variables.

When you use your cell phone to conduct a speed test it will automatically switch to the faster upload and download which can be either wifi or cellular speed. Signal strength means little when uploading or downloading. Example...my marina shows me all bars on wifi, but download is less than 10mbps. When I told the Harbour master he comes over with his phone and shows me a higher speed. I then ask him to turn off cellular and only use wifi....his speed was horrible. So always turn off either wifi or cellular to find the speed of what you are trying to control and eliminate everything else. Phone switch back and forth and you don't know what is doing the work.
