Boat Info
1997 330 DA
Engines
Twin 7.4 carb V-Drives
We've narrowed our search down to two 330's, heres the details:

1996 330 DA
T 454
800 hrs
new tops
NuTeak (or similar) cockpit and platform
Plotter/radar/sat tv
upgraded TV's etc in cabin (Aesthetic stuff)
$59,900
300 KM away ($1500 haulage)

1997 330 DA
T 454
600 hrs
120 hrs on gen
new tops
new cockpit carpet
new cockpit upholstery
original cabin
original (read: old) electronics
$52,500
and its local

Seems like a no brainer to me?

I assume the 96 does not have a generator? I personally would not let the local vs haul be a deciding factor but a generator (for me) surely was. Are both inboards?

Both inboards, yes. Both do have generators, sorry, forgot the mention that.

Seems like a no brainer to me also if both boats are in the same condition. Less dollars and newer model for less money unless you need the upgraded electronics.

I am going to use the money saved to upgrade the electronics.

What kind of electronics? Between electronics and flooring you could easily eat up the $7k cost gap. It may not be such a quick decision if you need/want the gear already included in the higher cost boat.

Are you shopping CAN only? There are a lot of solid 330's on the market right now.

My vote also goes for the newer one especially with the lower hours. SAT TV would be cool for some. I rarely watch TV on the boat and when I do I just fall asleep.

Having the opportunity to buy new electronics is kind of cool. I doubt the '96 has "new" electronics so this way you will have the latest and something you can customize for your needs.

AYUP!!!

why I made the offer. A friend stole a 47' motoryacht in Canada and brought it to Virginia over several months through the loop. Trip of a lifetime.

I'm bias towards the 1997 styling over the 96. There are nicer fabric choices on the 97. The electronics you are only going to get a 8" chart plotter in the dash add radar and you are around $3K. I really like the Simrad units put a NSS8 on ours and like it a lot.

The only thing I would look for would be what mechanical maint. is needed on either. That will add up quick for sure.

OK.... I'll show you mine!

garmin 74x w radar. Zero hours.
w'beke 5k lo co gennie. Zero hours
cabin is underway with upgrades.
duckbills. Zero flushes.
Engines like new. Completely gone through. Zero defects.

Long story short..... I'm moving up, out, or going to charter as needed.

I went through a 98 330 while shopping recently in the Port Clinton, OH area. Had I not gone through a 340 the same day I would have bought it. Basically brand new engines (both), deck fully repaired, quite a clean boat. The only downside was the lack of generator but the owner is very motivated and would have taken sub $50k for the boat.

If you’re into a bit of a project there was also a 2000 340 in the Chicago area that needed a fair amount of cleanup work. If mechanically sound it would have also been a steal in the low $50’s, upper $40’s. Lots of inventory out there…almost too much for me! This is a very popular model but it also seems like a fair number of people like to move up from the 330/340. I’m parked next to two 370’s at my marina and hope I can resist the urge for 5 or more years.

Good luck Molson. Get a marine survey before you close the deal. You can make an offer conditional on a satisfactory survey. I also recommend you make an offer lower than ask by about 15% or so. Boats are harder to sell than they are to buy, even in July. The worst that will happen is that they will counter higher than your low ball.

I've got an accepted conditional offer on one (the newer one) right now. Its is sub 50, and I'm happy with the price. Mechanical survey and water test tomorrow. Hull survey scheduled. As for the electronics, yes, I'd like new. Not to often I'd have the opportunity (read: wife) to buy new electronics. So I'll probably be shopping around for a plotter and radar. There is an OLD Raytheon radar on it now which will go.

David, what are you asking for Saint Max?

I am looking only in Ontario, the US dollar plus shipping/importing will eat up any savings, from what I've seen, the prices are in the same range without the dollar conversion.

Where did you see the 330 in the Port Clinton, OH area? I am looking for a 98 330 Dancer and live near that area.
